cross breeding our truck poll
We have Pontiacs goin into them, Caddy 500's, a truck that has had a caddy, then an olds... My horniac has a pontiac 350...so what's the senses? Who thinks it's ok to do something like this?
If it is ok to do any of these swaps, why would we all kill some one if they put a ford engine in one...even an old school built like they shoulda been built kickin @ss 427 SOHC Ford. (I'd like to see that personally) ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Trying to clean up the left over damage from the Dope-Smokin-Old-Man I've been dubbed the Longhorn Freak/Fanatic/Expert, I just hope I can live up to it. FINALLY got the HORNIAC...a '70 one ton Longhorn with a Pontiac 350/350 and lots of 'personality'. Check out The Longhorn Webite. I don't see a problem with repowering with Olds, Pontiac or Caddy, but I do have a problem with a F*@d motor. Granted, big power is big power and the 427-429 cj was one he!! of an engine, but it's just not natural in a chevy. Now, let's see one of those monsters in a 32 model A coupe!! or pickup.

a ford cammer would be wild in anything that you put it in! How about a chrysler hemi? I had a 401 AMC that i pulled from a jeep waogneer, asked a bud if he wanted it for his cj5........my wife told him that he better take it home, before I got a wild hair ,& put it in my truck! What the he!! ,it ran good. Cross breeds do get some guys a little excited, the chev boys love my V8 chev powered Ford ranger.....but the F%^d boys tell me that I ruined a good truck! hehe its all in what you want, you arent building it for somebody else.....69 longhorn.

I don't think it's natural to mix and match ford with GM. I don't like to see Ford engines in Chevs any more than Chev engines in old Fords. Just doesn't seem right. Maybe it's racism, but I think it's cool to have Pontiac, Olds, Buick, or Caddy stuff in a Chevy. I think Pontiacs have the coolest looking engines and wish I could have kept my Catalina. Last year I saw a Chevelle at a swap meet w/ a Hemi in it, and I thought that was odd, but I would have loved to have that Hemi. I have Pontiac door handles, window cranks, and 12" GTO mirror in my Chevy truck, so I guess I'm no purist.

Sorry to tell you but the reason that one should not put a f*rd engine in a chevy is like a fat girl should not wear a thong. It just doesn't look good or right.

*chuckle* True that.
I also agree, anything with a 427 SOHC is a monster. A few years ago, one of my dad's friends built an ERA Cobra with one of those engines...and I got to ride in it for a short bit...whoa...that's all I've got to say...whoa... And then it puked coolant all over my driveway. ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/

This is just an observation but I seem to notice a lot of 50's f100 with big block Chevys in them. Why don't you ever see a Chevy with a Ford engine?

Transplanting a Pontiac, Caddy or Olds is at least keeping it in the GM family...sort of like an organ donor. Going outside the family greatly increases the risk of "rejection"! God only knows what kinds of weird fasteners, fluids and electrons those Fords and Dodges have running around in them. My Ford 1 t. even has some metric fasteners! There is just not a self-respecting mechanic on the face of the earth that would risk altering the Cosmos by mixing these breeds! You don't spit into the wind, you don't tug on Superman's cape and you don't put a Ford or Dodge motor into a '67 - '72 Chev or GM pickup!

I hear what everyone is saying but i agree once again that it's all up to what you want. I've seen swaps in certain vehicles, they can be cool and very useful. There is a guy around town with a built 350 in a cj(5 or 7) and that thing will jump it's front end just from a bit of gas. However i dont see too many swaps into chevys. Mostly i see the guts of a chevy put elsewhere. If you've got a radical motor i say go for it, who cares what anyone things. I dont think i'd deny some stock Cosworth motor that i had sittin around my old job (pushin 800 ponies) even though it's a ford at the block. Just my 2 cents

I dont mind a GM motor in a Chevy heck i had a 64 BelAir with a 455 Poncho,it kicked ass over a BBC,I should be into Pontiacs or Olds,i can buy those at junkyards all day long for $100,but when you mention a BBC everyplace says we have then but act like they are a piece of gold. But i do have a Ford Part on my truck, its the 1pc driveline.67's gonna get a Ford starter selenoid,Ford did a couple things right, actually i like some of the fords, but all their trucks are ugly, but i like that unibody one,but it would sport a BBC,but i like the Boss Mustangs, and 427 cars, and love the 63 1/2 Galaxie(but it reminds me of a Impala)for anyone interested in ford stuff there a 428 CJet motor in a local recyling center.I should ask how much,he sells me running BBC for $250-might be a good investment-hes a 73 up Chevy guy,so im sure i could get it cheap, its in a Torino out in the yard.

You can do whatever you want to with your truck, it's yours. As for me, I wouldn't do it, anymore than I would date my ex-wife. But that's just me.

imo i believe that people like myself put other engines(as long as their gm) into chevies because we see too many chevey engines around and want to be different i am putting my caddy in mine because i want to be different, but then again how many 18 year olds do you see driving a 69 orange truck, ussually it is a rice burner.

some of you already know about this, but there is a certian '71 Custom/10 that is going to be getting an IH powerplant in it in a little bit if someone doesn't buy it soon. If that doesn't happen it'll just be scrapped... which is really sad because it's essentially rust (and dent) free with an original 4.11 posi and bedside tool box.
Oh yeah, and it's in CA $750 IIRC with a complete running 455 along with it (he won't put it in the truck because it has a th400 with it and he doesn't want an auto). [This message has been edited by Baradium (edited April 19, 2002).] |
