The pedal is held to the floor by two little balls that the pedal presses onto. I would recommend cutting two little holes in the carpet to expose the balls, and press the pedal on to the balls over the carpet so that the carpet is trapped between the pedal and the floor. If there is insulation on the underside of the carpet, you may need to cut it away under the pedal to reduce the thickness. Of course you won't be able to do any of this unless you first do as cdowns recommended and fix the existing cut in your carpet..
