Anyone Have Pics Of Their Installed Painless/EZ Wiring Harness
I have a 69 Chevy shortbed with factory air that I picked up last weekend. I got it from a guy on the forum and am happy as hell except for one small issue....THERE IS NO WIRING AT ALL!!! No plugs, ends, nothing. It looks like I will have to buy a couple spagetti harness' off of ebay to get all of the connector ends.
I am looking into several different kits because a new OEM kit is $500-$800 for all of the harness'. Painless, EZ and a company who has a kit Exactly like the painless but only $169! I talked to the guy at the Pomona Swap meet last Sunday, he is from GEM Street Rod Products www.gemstreetrods.com. He said his setup is GM colored and is labeled every 5" so you cannot get lost, no ends though. I am wondering if any of you have installed any of these kits (or ones like them as there are so many) that you have pictures of. How do they go through the firewall? Is it a plug style between the cab and the engine/light harness similar to the factory setup? Or is it completely different? I think it would look tacky to only have a hole on the firewall with a grommet and a bundled harness extruding from it. I want it to be Super clean., and kina factory looking. So far I have installed the new 2 1/2" spindles, 2" springs and shocks up front. I'll probably do the rear maybe tomorrow. Hopefully Friday I will have my A/C dash delivered and install it on Saturday so I can start the whole wiring project. Mike |

I'll see if I can find pics, I did the entire "painless" kit on my 72. It took several weekends and a LOT of patience.

Re: Anyone Have Pics Of Their Installed Painless/EZ Wiring Harness
C'mon guys, help a brother enthusiast out...I KNOW someone has done this and can post some pictures.....
Those of you that have done it...Is it worth it to do and would you do it again if you had the chance OR stick with a stock harness? I need to know so I can figure out if it is worth the time AND $$$$ to do it. Oh yea, here is where I am until this Friday when my replacement dash will hopefully arrive Mike |

Re: Anyone Have Pics Of Their Installed Painless/EZ Wiring Harness
I just started on mine and patience is the best tool. I'm using the painless 18 circut harness so I can add all the powaer acc. It has all the correct dash plugs already on. the column wires are there you just use your pigtail.the headlight and marker plugs come with it but you attach after you run the wires. The A/C wires are all there but no plugs, this is so you can use stock or aftermarket air.The rear harness also has no plugs because of different beds and lengths. All in all I thing it's a good buy.(Painless) I did have to enlarge the opening in the firewall. Good luck

Re: Anyone Have Pics Of Their Installed Painless/EZ Wiring Harness
It was $300 from Jegs for the 18 circut. I didn't want to spend that much but since all I had to work with was a chopped up harness from the 6 banger, plus I can add all my acc with no problem and the fuel injection will be a 1 wire hook up

Re: Anyone Have Pics Of Their Installed Painless/EZ Wiring Harness
Texas 68...Is it similar to the factory harness that has plugs behind the fuse block to plug in the engine and front lights into? I know the rest have no plugs on the pigtails, but where it goes from the inside to the engine compartment is more important to me.
Also, is there a specific part number or just an 18 circuit Mike Last edited by BigMike; 10-22-2005 at 01:27 AM. |

Re: Anyone Have Pics Of Their Installed Painless/EZ Wiring Harness
Well I did it...I went to Jegs and ordered the following harnesses
764-10206 - 67-72 GMC/Chevy Pickup 2/4WD = $309.99 764-30901 - 67-72 Truck A/C Harness = $59.99 764-80300 - Universal 3-Prong Sealed Beam Headlight Plugs, 2/pkg. = $15.99 Grand total (FREE, yes FREE 1-2 day shipping) = $395.96 including a $9.99 handling fee. I know it should take a few days to get it all dialed in. Fortunately I have wired nearly 45 or so VW bugs (yes I know they do not really count) so I have a bit of experience and patience (my wife would argue that) to get it dressed out nicely. I used to build them for a living some 15 years ago... I wish the previous owner had not have discarded the old harness, so now I have no ends to terminate with. Brothers carries a full line of GM plastic ends that I can buy when I get to that point. Wish me luck guys, I'm a gonna need it Mike Last edited by BigMike; 10-22-2005 at 02:25 AM. |

Re: Anyone Have Pics Of Their Installed Painless/EZ Wiring Harness
Well after 6 hours of fixing my $75 waste of a dash I bought from one of our members, I finally installed it today. Here is a picture of the installed dash. I should hopefully get my wiring by Tue or Wed
I'll send more pics soon. Mike |
