Cool Why I'm going so slow on the ....

Here is why I been going so slow on the Longhorn/caddy cross breeding.

Not only am I making her all pretty and stuff, i am so sick of doing the kitty litter dance on my parking spot to clean up the Exxon Valdez sized oil slick, that I am doing everything in my power (short of welding on all the tin) to keep the oil INSIDE the engine.
Opinoins?
(The blue is factory issue GM corp blue for the era of the engine, and the intake is sprayed aluminum becouse it not only brakes up the solid pastel color, but it looks faster this way and besides...I ran out of blue ans was NOT going to buy a whole can for just the intake.)

Lookin' good, longhorn. The aluminum intake looks better, that woulda been a lot of blue!

You can't say anything about TJ's pastel truck now!

I did think of doing it up in ford blue, as much as it sickens me to say this, I think that is the best engine color ever made. Look at a properly restored blue ford small block, they are dang good looking.
Blu, I was thinking that as I opened ut this thread just now...I'll never hear the end of it from TJ.

Hmmm, well, the original paint on this engine was this shade...but you are the second person to say that in as many days...
Oh well, the gaskets are too expensive to rip it back apart, screw it, pastel it stays.

OK, I won't add any more pastel puns! I'm sure TJ will get enough fun out of it to satisify all of us, he-hee!
But, Andy, I am curious about how you cleaned the block and what kind of prep work you did. From some of the pics you posted showing it before, it looked pretty nasty, so I was wondering if you did anything special before painting. And by the way, it actually does look good, especially when compared to the before pics, nice job!

Well, for those with memory problems (like myself) here is a pic from the day I picked it up.
Before I even got it home, i took it to a coin op car wash and spent $3 worth of quarters, and a can of engine cleaner. That got rid of alot of the caked on crat.
Then, when I was getting seriouse about making it look good, i took 2 cans of brake cleaner, a putty knife, a tooth brush, and spent an hr or so on the long block. The intake and valve covers (both off of another engine) were taken in to work, where I tossed them into a sand blast cabinet and stripped them to bare metal before painting them up.
All the small little do-dads were either sanded or blasted also.
