Shifter Removal
What is the best way to remove the shifter from my 72 chevy 4speed. I know it lookes like there are 2 role pins on the sides. DO these have to be removed? I also noticed that it lookes like there is a cap holding the shifter in. Is there anything that O can do with this? Please help, I am going to be putting my Carpet in the weekend and it would help not to have this in the way.

All you need to do is push down on the cap and turn about a 1/4 turn and the shifter will pull out. I can't remember if you have to turn it clockwise or counter-clockwise. I seem to think it is counter-clockwise but it has been a while since I have removed one. Hope this helps.

Push down on the ring/cap at the bottom of your shifter and turn it 1/4 to 1/2 turn anti-clockwise and the shifter will pull out.

It will not push down or turn. Is there any other way??

thats th eonly way i know, just keep pushing, put all of your weight on it, there harder then heck to get to go down.. (the last time i tried i weighed 155, and liked to never got it down)

A bit of WD40 helps too. Just be careful not to use too much & not be able to get a grip on it. Gashed my hand pretty good on the heater box with that stunt.
