Your latest junkyard find? or just find.

Looking for a inner roof, can't decide if I really want to cut it off to replace, found a complete 71-72 Cheyenne long fleet with AC minus engine/tranny, as well as a picked over A/C cab and decent bed at one yard, amazing enough he said he would sell Cheyenne for $500! If it was only a short bed it would be mine but still tempted by all those parts, heck it is restorable, has the stainless on windshield but missing body trim mouldings, nice rear chrome bumper, front chrome is kinda banged in and has tube grille. Another yard I found several 73-87 trucks, one half decent short step with 6 cyl for $500, and a looong 65 panel truck with a Cadillac engine, maybe an ex ambulance. Took my digicam only to have low batteries. I love wandering junkyards.

Re: Your latest junkyard find? or just find.

Most of the junkyards in the hill country have good stuff. All the ones down in my area don't have hardly anything. I found one place around San Antonio that had about 20 67-72's and most of 'em were complete trucks. Some even had air in all the tires!

The most recent score I got was two painted hubcaps from a 1969-72 GMC 1/2 ton for free. They're kinda dented and rusty, but they look good hanging on the wall with the painted 3/4 ton chevy caps for my truck. Before that I got a 16.5x9.75 8 lug GM steel wheel with a 50% tread mud tire for 10 bucks, that was an awesome deal! I've put over 1000 miles on that tire too. Still lookin for one more wheel though.

Re: Your latest junkyard find? or just find.

There are a few yards an hour or so in any direction outside Atlanta that have some trucks and one I know of within the city that has a few. I never have much time to wander through em but I just recently got some interior pieces off a truck in Monroe, Ga (near UGA). I live in the suburbs of Atlanta so drivin out to a yard can easily soak up a day but I tend to find what I need, I always seem to notice a lot more 60-66 trucks then 67-72s for some reason though.

Re: Your latest junkyard find? or just find.

Too bad good junkyards are becoming a thing of the past!! I've know of several old timers dying and crushing out. No one wants to open salvage yards anymore either. Too much epa crap. Not to mention the govt. doesnt want us roaring up and down the road in our older cars and trucks.

Re: Your latest junkyard find? or just find.

I got the shifter at a swap meet for 20 bucks and the roll pans for free from a guy that came into my work. Cheap and free parts always make me feel so good. lol
