Hey guys - This is one of the best threads I've seen in a long time. Lots of good hands on info and no BS. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to all of us ... and I think our trucks look like an elephant sat on them when they are chopped. Drag em as low as you can go but keep the top stock.:p

I agree! (about the elephant thing)

And thanks again for the compliments everyone. My truck has been under construction for a good 3-1/2 years now. For the most part it's been very enjoyable, but there are times I didn't even want to go out into the garage! I'm on the home stretch now with mainly body work left to do. Unfortunately it's my least favorite part of the project (but it's the part that everyone sees). My goal is to have the whole truck back together and in primer (and have the inbterior done) by the first week of October. I think can reach my goal if I just keep at it. Can't wait to have it all together so I can fully appreciate the look that the air suspension will give it. Just having the fenders sitting on got me pumped. Well, I better get bacl to work..... time is running out!

Yeah, i got some good perspectives about our trucks. I too think that they look kinda silly with the tops chopped unless maybe it's chopped like very little, like that silver and blue truck. It looks okay; Not superb but okay. But Im just glad i could be a part of this joyess event Nice pics and info everyone. thanks.

What did you do to overcome the several hurdles needed to get that low? Like the tires hitting the fender and the engine crossmember sitting on the ground? Have you got any more detailed pics?

My lights are built as follows--

Red Lexan cut to shape. Then cut and file holes in roll pan so the red piece fits perfectly. Then glue up a piece of clear prismatic Lexan (like the stuff in office flourescent fixtures) that's about .5" too big on all sides for the hole-- to the red piece. Slip this in from the rear of the pan. Then weld studs to either side of the slit in the pan. Make a light box that holds your bulbs or LED panel that is big enough to fit on top of the clear piece that was cut too big. Put tabs on the side of the light box that slide over the studs. Cut a piece of 1/4" closed cell foam the same size as the clear plastic and cut a hole in it so as to not cover the red piece. Now pinch all that stuff together and spin some nuts down on the studs. Everything stays in place and can be easily accessed for bulb changes.

{wow... that was long, I hope it makes sense}

No pics of it yet but I'll try to remember to snap some when I'm doing the front lights in the bumper.

No its not body dropped I just rebuilt the front cross member and its got a big notch in the back. I hoping to paint it this winter. Glad you like it.

So give us more details on the drop. What size tires are on there? I'm trying to figure out how you got another 1 1/2 inches out of the front without the tires hitting the fenders... which, no matter what kind of drop you do to the front end, the fenders are always there to get in your way.

I could not get this link to work and i would love to see this truck. Looking at all these trucks makes me want to hurry up and finish mine. And I've got a long way to go.

Try the next link the first one is screwed up. The frame is essentially channeled two inches into the front cross member. I donn't run any inner fenders. The inside of the fenders is sitting on the tire when its bagged out. The upper control arm on the drivers side in notch to clear the steering shaft. I'mgoing to radius the inner part of the wheelwell so I can still drive at this height without cutting a grove in my tire. The front tires are 225-40-18 and the rears are 255-40-18. I was going to switch to 20s all around but if I stay with the 18s in the front I can get another inch after I change my bag mounts. I'll keep you updated.

That explains it. The 225/40 is about 25" tall, which is about 1.5 to 1.75" shorter tire than what Slammed67 and I are running on our fronts.

Keep us posted (with pics too!) on the fender trimming. I've been contemplating this as well but haven't done anything yet.
