Aw MAN! did I ever work out a deal on a 78 w/454
Hey all. Just gotta brag about a pretty good lookin deal I've worked out with a friend of a friend who's looking to sell his 78 Sierra Grand with a 454 on propane (with a 300L tank). He wants $600 for the whole truck; the only thing that's wrong is the torque converter and apparently his dad who spent most of the time behind the wheel was quite picky about manitenance so it should be a good truck otherwise. The only hitch to this is that I have to play bagpipes at his brothers wedding in a couple of weeks which i definitely don;t mind doing at all. (sorry about my lousy typing....had a couple of Guiness).
I was thinking of waiting 'til spring to try and hunt down an older Caddy to scoop the 500 and then put that on propane but it looks like I'm gonna get my propane and a 454 (cheaper speed/muscle parts) for $600(Canadian which is roughly $400US). I'd better go see if I can still play those damned pipes! Greg |

Great find! Based on what I've been reading on this board, that switch is going to be quite a bit simpler than a 500 Caddy swap, and a lot cheaper when you add everything up.

Sweet deal. I'm getting ready to do a 454 swap into my 4x4. Can't wait to feel the difference. Sounds like you got a steal of a deal.

Why
How come everybody else always gets the good deals? That's not fair.

Gotta learn to love haggis, maybe?
I can't wait to get ahold of the engine. Of course, I've never attempted anything this heavy duty (swapping engines) so I'm going to have to pester you folks like a 2 year old for awhile. Apparently all that's keeping the '78 from moving at the moment is a busted torque converter so maybe I'll get it running to collect bits for the '69 before gutting it. Greg |
