Gear Ratio
So, without taking the rearend apart and counting teeth, how do I determine what my gear ratio is?

You can jack up the back and count how many times the wheel goes around for one rotation of the driveshaft...

Here's how I do it... if the vehicle has an open differential:
Jack up one rear wheel (leave other one touching the ground) Transmission in neutral Turn the rear wheel that's in the air so the valve stem is straight down Then turn wheel (direction doesn't matter) exactly 2 full turns while counting turns on the driveshaft (for example, just over 4 turns but not 4 1/4 would be a 4.10 ratio) If you have a positraction rear end, both rear wheels need to be in the air, and turn the tire only one full time around instead of 2 John
