1979 Chevy P/U Pontiac 350
I have a Chevy 1979 with a pontiac 350. I cannot find the timing mark or #1 on the distributor cap. I cant get the firing order right. How can I find out the year of my 350 so I can get the right firing order? And please where is #1 on the distributor? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Zarlow

Look for your block number which should be on the driver's side towards the back, just below the header. Then, look at this site for a reference. http://www.73-87.com/chevy_ids/blockid.htm
Hope this helps, Scott

The number one spot on your dizzy moves around. It is where you put it.
The easiest way to find it is to put the number one piston at TDC, but even then you could be 180 out. To do this you need to take out the number one spark plug, bump the engine around untill the piston is at the highest point. That is TDC top dead center, then wherever your rotor points is number one, If is looks wrong, like it's in the back, spin the motor oround one more time, you were on the exhaust stroke. Hope this helps.
