lower balljoints
Went to put new lower balljoints into the lower control arms of my 80.. and whoops! they drop right in easily! Is there any way to make the hole smaller or would it be ok to maybe weld the balljoint in place? I'm thinkin 3 or 4 tack welds should hold it in place pretty good and not heat it up enough to do any damage inside.. Please offer any input as I have many hours into these lca's removing the old bushings and installing polyurethane ones, as well and sandblasting and painting.. there's gotta be a way to save em! Must be some trick to holdin that lower balljoint in as I've heard other people have had the same problem but just ignored it..

i think there are oversize ball joints made for precisely your problem.....

I think I would opt for oversized ball joints, rather than "play" with the arms. I have tack welded ball joints in an old truck, that didnt have a tight press(not the best way to go, & I wouldnt reccomend it on something you plan to drive for a long time). crazyL

some times the good ole "adjustable heat wrench" and a little freindly persuation is the best way to go but not when your wheels might fall off.

They're under tension. The front springs tends to pull them into place. They can't fall out. Tack weld them in place. I've done it in the past.
