winch bumper
I have seen a bunch of K5s on this site with a classic warn winch bumper on the front. From what I can tell, Warn doesn't make a model specifically for the early model blazer. I am wondering which model works best on an '71 Blazer. I really like the looks of these bumpers and I am planning on installing a winch soon.
Also, pics of the install would be awesome. |

Re: winch bumper
I bought a Western Plow for a`71.They only listed a universal kit that required cutting the core support and no was just awkward and stupid looking. My partner had one on his, then new,`84.We measured his frame and the plow mount and decided to take the universal crap back and get that application. It basically bolted right on.The 81-87s are straight across the front and the 67-72 is peaked a bit. So,we moved the mount out a bit and had to drill one hole on each side and weld a stop because it was intended to rest against the shackle perch. So,I`m sure the winch bumper would be the same.

Re: winch bumper
I'm going to be using a "RoadArmor" bumper from a 81-88 Model. It's at the body shop being fitted up right now. I'll post pictures once the truck is completed. Very expensive bumper, but it gives the look I wanted.

I do like the KMA, but dang that's pricey. The turn signals are a nice touch though!.

Re: winch bumper
Here's a Warn winch bumpter I bought on ebay as fitting 67-72. Never installed it.
Here's a link to what I think is the matching directions in PDF, though it says 73-80.

Re: winch bumper
I had the warn classic winch bumper on mine when I bought my 72 Blazer, It was a bolt on application. If you look in the how many 4 wheel blazer thread You can see a picture of it. I took it off as soon as I could afford to buy the stock bumpers. I was amazed that it weighed 90 pounds(without the winch) when I shipped it to it's new owner after an ebay auction. I was about to dump it until I found out that they retail For $600.00. One mans junk is definetly another mans treasure. Pretty sure it's the exact bumper on the warn site.

Re: winch bumper
My father in laws 71 has a bumper just like garedclays...
Offroad design makes one also that fits gen 1's and gen 2's. I'm having them install one on my 79 while they have it doing some mods that are long overdue.... I think buckstop makes a model for the 81-87 crowd...expensive but damn fine looking...maybe they could modify the mounts to fit a gen 1. DW

Re: winch bumper
tnblazerk5 - when you can, get a different front shot of your bumper that shows it off a bit better - I am still figuring out what kind of bumper to do for my K20. Thanks!

Still waiting for my bumper to be installed on the blazer (Blazer is still in the paint booth), but here is a pic of the bumper on a newer style blazer.

Re: winch bumper
Here is my KMA....1999 version so they don't look exactly like mine anymore...
At that time I think I paid just under 300 bucks.... but again they were just getting started on making them for our rigs..

Re: winch bumper
So do I take it that the frame dimensions between the 69-72 K5's (67-72 trucks) is the same as the 73-87? Never have had a chance to measure to know the answer.

Re: winch bumper
Don't know for sure but I think they are the same...but, our body style is more of a V at the front were as 73+ are flat ___ straight accross. So a bumper made for a 73+ will have big gaps at the corners as the grill slants inward toward the sides.... you dig?
Burt PS ~ Hope all is well with you and yours YJ

Re: winch bumper
That makes sense - I'm still fighting with myself over what type of bumper to go with - a stock would be easy and quick but I'm sure leaning towards a custom one - I have a friend who will build it so I am sure that is the way I will go eventually.
PS - doing great and so is the family - hope the same for you too.
