Wrecking yard .
I was in a wrecking yard today that had some 67 - 72's , what do i need to look for in a van tilt column ?? I spotted one , is it the ign key in the dash ? Is that the only one that works in 67 -72 , also there was a front clip for a c50 , off a school bus , no rust , wasn't someone looking for fenders recently ? I'm going back in the morning with cash / tools . Let me know on the tilt , thanks .

Re: Wrecking yard .
Yeah, you want the one with the key in the dash. Check the parts board for the c50 stuff. I can't remember the name though.

Re: Wrecking yard . C-50 fenders
I also need the front fenders for the medium duty 67-72 chevy truck. If they are straight with little to no rust I would be interested. Pictures would be nice. get me a price if you are interested in working with me.

Re: Wrecking yard .
Its been awhile since we had any, but i think gm used that same steel front end up to about 84 on the bus chassis...After that it was fiberglass tilt.

Re: Wrecking yard .
IRT the 67-72 medium duty front fenders, I think I just saw one in a bone yard the other day, but I was not absoultely sure it was one of our trucks. has anyone got a pic of one that I can use to positively i.d. it when I go back?

Re: Wrecking yard .
This is what the 67-72 medium duty front ends look like Chevy or GMC. Only difference in the 2 would be the grill. Also...on some of your larger trucks (C-60,70 or bigger) and some school busses the fenders are flared out a little wider but they will all bolt up to each other. For those of you that have not dealt with these.....The guage cluster, dash, dashpad ,visors, seat, fuel tank, seat belts, doors, door panels and other misc. items are the same as our normal trucks. Most of the sheet metal (other than doors) is VERY different. I pulled this one out of the woods and about $1800 later I had a practically new, daily use dump truck. It is now awaiting replacement fenders and a paint job.

Re: Wrecking yard .
The inst panel does not swap over directly, you'll have to replace the bezel to install in a 10 - 30 truck.
There was another style of front clip which wraps around a bit and has the front lower corner of the door chopped off. |

Re: Wrecking yard .
Thanks for the pictures to use as a reference. I am pretty sure there are two of them at this bone yard. I will take pictures for you to look at when I go back there.
One thing to know, is what would your highest budget be for one or both of them, assuming they are in good shape? Got to think about cost of transport too.

Re: Wrecking yard .
Some of them are the same.... most are not.
Here is what I'm talking about on the inst panel... every C/40 and up that I have seen has this style, which will not fit in a C/30 and smaller. You can see in the pic where the steering column goes through, there is a cut out to make the column fit in it higher. The higher position is for the smaller trucks, the lower position is for the bigger trucks since the column is at a steeper angle. The inst panel it's self is the same, (many will have an 80psi oil guage instead of 60 as seen in the small trucks) but the bezel is not the same. Granted, I have not looked at a whole lot of these c/40 and up, only a dozen or so... but they were all like that as far as the inst panels go. |

I went out and looked through some old parts that were under the seat when I dragged this thing out of the woods. Low and behold...there was a dash bezzel that looks JUST like the one in the picture above. The one in it now is that of a regular 67-72 truck with the rubber gasket and plate at the bottom.Obviously it was changed out at some time...I always thought it looked a little slopy down there but never paid close attention to it. Normally I have 5 tons of sand or rock in it and am battling Atlanta traffic!?!!! JOY. Longhorn man....feel free to send me that air pressure guage so I can do some comparisons with it too!!! I have just the spot for it!!! |

Re: Wrecking yard .
Actually, that one got fixed up and sold on here about 3 years ago. I did get 150 bucks out of it and it only took about 20 hrs to sell. Got it out of a 71 GMC bobtail (semi) truck in a local junk yard. Guy was hooking up air bags to his rig and was going to use that to minitor the system pressure.
