Re: Question for the burb fans

Hi
Its always nice to find another Suburban fan. I looked for the info. that you were interested in in the Chevrolet Red Book, which offers alot of data about these trucks. As far as I know, for some reason, GM offers info. for Chevrolet but for some reason, none is available on the GM model trucks as far as production #s. I believe that all other information and options offered between the two truck models are the same so, heres what I have.

Facing the engine compartment, in front and just below the Cylander head on the left there is a small flat area with #s and letters stamped into the metal of the engine block. It will probably need to be wiped clean. This is where you can Verify for sure, what eng is in the truck. The letters are what your interested in.

For 68 V8s

DA or DB 307 v8 2bbl 200hp manual trans
DE or DN 307 v8 2bbl 200 hp auto trans
EA or EO 327 v8 2 bbl 250 hp manual trans
EE 327 v8 2 bbl 250 hp auto trans
EC 327 v8 4 bbl 275 hp auto
EH or EJ 327 v8 4 bbl 275 hp manual trans
EI 327 v8 4bbl. 275 hp auto
EP or ES 327 v8 4bbl 325 hp manual trans

this is what I have in my book. Due to the sequence of the listings, I see two are listed for 327 4bbl 275 hp autos. I'm suspicous that the EI may infact be a 325 hp model, but the listing above is whats in the book. Sorry that I cant be of more help. Good luck! Again its my opinion that they are all worth picking up if the price is right.
P.S. there are also 7 engine suffix codes for the available 396 v8

Re: Question for the burb fans

How much you gotta give for the burb? What shape is the body in? I have a 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban 1/2 ton. 4 spd. I was told they were extremely rare. If you consider there were like 15 to 1 Chevys made compared to GMC that makes them more rare. Difinitley worth picking up. I bought mine last year for 2500.00 it has very low miles and little to no rust. It also has the factory GMC brush guard I am restoring now. It is probably worth as much as the truck as it is the only STOCK GMC grill guard I have ever seen. Factory motor for my truck was a 327. The 350 in it when I bought it did not last long I am replacing it with a bone stock looking 327 camel hump heads but stroked to 383 with the RV Crank. That coupled with the 4 speed posi .410 should scream~! What a sleeper also~!This is a pic of before I got the truck. It looks much better now. Good luck with the burb shoot me a pic.

Re: Question for the burb fans

SWEET~!
If you get a chance to get some more detailed pics of the following 2 items and can send them to me VIA e-mail at speed@blading.com I could use them for restoration purposes.
Glove Box door outside with shifting instructions in detail and the front fender badges that would be really helpfull with my resto.
Thanks
Brew

Awesome find, Longhorn.
Bring it to Edmonton once you get it going, I'd love to see it in person.
Where did you find that beast? I may have to come out to your neck of the woods when I have some cash, and my 'burb is done the way I want it.

Most likely it is 149,000 miles. Nothing wrong with that. It does not take me long to get 49,000 miles at our house. Or even it could be 249,000. Back then the odomenter only showed 100,000 and now you have the million mile. You use to never hardly see a car or truck for sale in the paper showing (lets say) 180,000 miles. But it would say 80,000 miles and so on. But you never really know. What does the title say?

Re: Question for the burb fans

Being that it hasn't seen pavement since 73... I'd bet a punch in the gut those are original miles.
Sweet score...esp in Canadian money! I'd like to see the option sheet on that sucker too if you don't mind.

Re: Question for the burb fans

look at the wear on the rubber pad for the brake pedal, if it isnt worn down much, it could be that when the 307 took a dump, they parked it and those miles are about right for when the original engine in mine (307) was replaced
hmmmm? deductive reasoning...... maybe sherlock had something there
