color of tailights

RED......... no jus kidding. what my question is,what is the color of the paint on the inside of the tail light housings. I want to clean them up and replace, repaint the inside of the housing and I was very curious what the color was used from factory?

yeah, silverish something... but white looks better and provides a little more light reflection.

well thats curious, I dont know if mine are original, but the back up housings are green one tail light housing is green the other tail light is the bare metel look,(silver like) and the park light housings are white, so A'm I looking at ???, I dont know. yes the post was for identifiing the tail light housings but I want to renew the paint in everyone of them and I wondered what the color was that was from factory. so please more feedback for me please

It's dark and raining right now, but tomorrow it's supposed to dry out a bit -- and the light will be better! I'll check my original housings and let ya know. I'm thinking they are silver, maybe something like zinc plated.

Didn't the factory just paint it white, and then overspray the body color?

White paint will reflect a lot of light. Polished metal will reflect more direct light, but not much more light as far as quantity.

I believe the factory just left them as galvanized metal and didn't worry or care about overspray from painting the rest of the truck. That could be why you are finding many different colors behind the lenses.

Eastwood has a reflective paint for this purpose. I used it and it works real well. Aluminum paint probably works just as good.

Yup, this is what they are -- maybe just galvanized like mjrmn said -- though I also have long-forgotten overspray from a previous paint job.

Mine (from a stepside) are black from the factory.
