DQ: Why did Chevrolet....

do away with the removable top option after the late 80's. I have a 92 now along with my 72 and it's just not the same...I don't like it. Wasn't Blazer supposed to be the competitive/comparison to Ford for marketing? Bah, I don't know....

Re: DQ: Why did Chevrolet....

According to GM most people never removed the top. This is the same GM that recently said no one will buy a short bed crewcab 1/2 ton. You go try and figure them out...

Re: DQ: Why did Chevrolet....

They stopped the full top after`75,Ford stopped it after`77.Now,none of them come off at all and they don`t even make a Blazer or Bronco.Heated leather seats,OnStar, vanity mirrors...things have changed.Take that`92 to a trim shop after you cut the top off and they`ll fit you a nice drop top.I think that would be awesome.

Re: DQ: Why did Chevrolet....

Probably because no one ever took them off, and the ones that did complained about it not sealing correctly afterwards.

FYI: The fullsize Ford Bronco with removable roof continued until 1996, not 1977.

Re: DQ: Why did Chevrolet....

The Full Removeable top on the broncos ended with the early bronco's in 77. The Full size version only had a half top like the 76 and up Blazers.

Splitting hairs though....

Part of the issue on the removable tops is rollover regulations as well as other safty regs. I'm sure they were looking at that during the redesign process. Throw the liabilty issue from all the Samurai Rollovers and it's an easy descion to make it a full steel top.

Keep this in mind, the tops on the first gen K5's and 73-75's were an option along with the passenger seat and rear seat.

If you don't want to cut the roof, Sell it and get a 91. It's basically the same drivetrain, but you get the removable roof and Solid front axle. Still some solit trucks out there for sure...

Re: DQ: Why did Chevrolet....

East End, if your 92 is a 2wd and you don't like it, I might be interested in buying it?

Re: DQ: Why did Chevrolet....

The biggest problem with a removeable top was...you couldn`t take it with you.Runnin`round a ranch using it like a Jeep was ok.But,if you go on a trip you have two choices that you`re stuck with until you get back:Top on/top/off.That`s why soft tops are the way to go,at least in the warm weather.
