Wdygdtw?
So what did you get done this weekend? I got my power disc brakes' booser, brakets, and master all painted and assembled. I cleaned/sanded my upper a-arms, spindles, backing plates, and steering bar ( I don't know what it is called) and they ar ready to paint. I also bought new front rotors.
Lets see some progress ![]() Mike

Mike, Nice looking job there, kinda hate to put it on if you know what I mean. Would make a nice lamp base for the coffe table or something in the den....LOL.
I primed & blocked my doors...one more time.

Re: Wdygdtw?
We had company this weekend so I did absolutely nothing. The only vehicle related thing I did was shovel the driveway this afternoon. I did make a nice big batch of homemade chicken soup though, can't wait for lunch tomorrow.

Re: Wdygdtw?
I managed to get my rails finished for my new frame, they are somewhat welded up and the only cross memebers that are currently setup is the front suspension and one 2x4 boxed steel in the rear just before the rear axle. I got my new axles in friday so I took the rear housing down to get it narrowed and should have it back middle of next week. I got the cab, bed and frontend all on the truck and squared out, the frame squared out to less than 1/16". next weekend, I will install motor & trans and setup mounts and setup the rear suspension & differential in the new frame, once this is done I will go back through and cleanup any welds and start gusseting anywhere there is a potential week spots as well as over any welding done and start laying in some pipeing for lateral and rigidity support and planning my exhaust routing. Then I get to take it all apart again so I can paint/epoxy whatever to the frame.

I drove down to Lawerenceville, GA and picked me up some goodmark doors and fenders for my 67. Wohoooo.
I also installed GM factory fog lamps on my Z71... now I have to go blow another 50 bucks for a dealer to program them ![]()

Re: Wdygdtw?
well spent a few hours saturday with the good people at o-reilys, buying gaskets and stuff to assemble my engine, and some nice engine paint. it's red 1200 degree stuff. in order to clean the engine, assemble, and paint it i had to back the truck out (that was an adventure) i wanted the back wheels in the driveway to give room in the front of the garage, but i had installed a new parking brake cable, which is my only brake since i put on a new brake booster and stuff. well i backed it out and it didn't wanna stop, so i rolled all the way down the driveway into the street. i'm glad i moved the cars that were in the driveway. remind me to tighten that cable.
so here's the engine. i'm going to paint the intake silver, i thought it would look better natural at first but it looks terrible. i need a different thermostat housing, and preferably a chrome one. also i plan to wipe the valve cover fins off and get them silver again. i'm rebuilding the carb soon, wish me luck. oh and i know the valve cover T bolts are blue, i need chrome ones. all of that this weekend, with the flu, and a high temperature of 102.3 Last edited by matthufham; 02-05-2006 at 10:28 PM. |

Re: Wdygdtw?
whoa matthufham, you need chicken soup. Motor's gettin there btw. I fixed a blown trans hose that the PO never shoulda put there in the first place. I ended up cleaning the floor beneath the hoist i put the truck on (which was really nasty, had to scrub) because i dumped about 2 quarts of ATF on the floor driving the truck in with a leak. Got my old tach removed it got really jumpy...took a whole bunch of pics with my phone because i forgot my digital camera at home. Are these too fuzzy for ebay? It's time to let old mellow yellow go down the road, i need to raise funds for my next one. Not to get off the subject but what's it worth? About 8K on a pretty nicely done restoration. Especially the paint. No bubbles period after 7 years.

Well, my weekend was on Wed. & Thur. I did get the power steering pump replaced & it works like a champ! I also replaced the drivers side window regulator, door latch control, door glass runs & felts. I also replaced the rear seal on the TH400 & installed the rebuilt 2 piece drivshaft. All of these make for a smoother & quieter driving truck.

Re: Wdygdtw?
No work, but I drove my Blazer today to a SuperBowl party. I think it gulped 1/2 a tank driving 60 or so miles. What's that, 6 or 7 mpg? Can't wait to do that crate motor...

Re: Wdygdtw?
I got a good bit done.....
1) I rebuilt and detailed the under dash heater box. 2) Lubed and freed up the heater control cables. 3) Built up an automatic steering column. Member Dennis Brooks gave me a basket case steering column awhile back with some missing parts. I built a hybrid column using missing parts from a 3 speed column. 4) I did the headlight relay mod using an obscure source for the relays (I'm going to post tech seperately on this one) 5) Removed a rusty rocker and cab corner. Fit the new parts, and ran out of gas. Of course, the welding supply house is closed on Sunday, so I had to stop there. 6) Rebuilt the whole underdash and underhood wiring harnesses using new wires and fusible links. 7) Made a pattern and built a clutch hole block off plate. 8) Filled all unused holes in the firewall. 9) Installed a front sway bar using the nice ECE lowered truck mounting kit. I'm actually using 64 model control arms with 72 model ball joints. I found out, 64 arms don't have the holes for swaybar mounting. I had to drill the holes myself. That sucked doing that, underneath the truck.

Re: Wdygdtw?
continued....
10) Built a set of blockoff plates to cover the cab light holes in the top of the cab. 11) Built a side mirror. I say built, because all I could find in my junkpile was a passenger side mirror and I need a driver side mirror. I cut it apart and rotated the shaft to reverse it. After getting it all put together, I brazed it up. I brazed it, because like I said above, I ran out of gas, so no MIG welding till I get to the welding supply house. All I had to work with was my oxy/acetylene torch. 12) finished up repairing a floor tunnel. All I had laying around were hacked, so I just plated the holes over. 13) Last picture is how I stay motivated. Decatur is coming up in three weeks. I keep a dry erase board on the shop wall with a countdown timeline and a list of things needed done. That way when I get feeling lazy, I look at the calendar and the list, so I have no choice but to get back to work. This truck WILL be done by Decatur....I hope....waiting for license plates to arrive from ebay.

Wasnt truck related but had a great time. I took my 10 year old to Corpus Christi and stayed overnight aboard the USS Lexington with his cub scout group. Also went and saw my first hockey game, I could get addicted to that!

Re: Wdygdtw?
I started the weekend by tightening the steering. I went from a 1/4 turn of slop to little over 1 inch. I didn't want to overtighten. I forced on of the locking hubs from half way out to all the way out. Bled the brakes, and bled the trailer brake controller. I tried to buy a carrier bearing at NAPA, but no dice. Same with a turn signal switch and wires.
I did get a lot of cleaning done in the cab. Took several hours of scrubbing with Gojo hand cleaner and a toothbrush, but the results were worth it. Before ![]() After ![]() The orange wire is my make shift dimmer switch.
