what can I swap?

Well, i came across an 89 3/4t 4x4 down the road in need of serious body repair......thought it might make a good donor vehicle. I was thinking I could pull the front axle to get myself some disc brakes, the hydraulic clutch would be VERY nice, possibly pull the bucket seats. It's a manual trans, but I like my column shifter, so I likely won't swap that out. Hoping that the rear has a locker in it that I can pull, will rims fit on a 70?

Anything else that I could scavange to make it worth the time and effort? I figured once I was done, I would part out the rest of the rig.
Haven't looked at it yet, but in 89, would that be a 4 or 5spd?

Thanks!

Re: what can I swap?

Hmm that 89 is it a solid front axle still....if yes, then yes it could be used on the older style trucks..if solid axle it would be a GM 10 bolt front. I believe it would still be a 4 speed in the 89.

Is this an 8 bolt rimmed 3/4 ton or a 6 bolt rimmed 3/4 ton, either should fit anyway to the bolt pattern being matched in you earlier years truck.

Re: what can I swap?

Unless it's a crew cab, it's IFS front.

Should have a 14B rear. Should be a five speed, if it's a manual. Motor should be a TBI350.

Re: what can I swap?

If it is a crewcab(old body style) it will have a 4spd.The only regular cabs with solid front axles in`88 &`89 were old body style 1 tons.
