Can anyone point me to an information source (online or other) that gives a good breakdown of the differences between rockwell, dana, and new process transfer cases? I am trying to put something together because my dana 20 doesn't seem to fit the bill, and I would like to see if there are additional parts that will make it work, and what the strongest might be.......specifically trying to find out the major differences between the 203, 205, and 208 right now.....I know the 208 is chain driven? The 203 is full time, but I keep hearing about part time 'kits'

any information would be appreciated.

Post this question in the 4X4 thread, a mod may do it for you. 205 is strong and heavy, the 203 is chain driven (maybe full time as well) 208 is a good inbetween not as strong or heavy as a 205, but stronger than the 203. as for the hub kit, I believe it is on the axle and has nothing to do with the transfer case (again someone with more knowledge can fill you in). The 4X4 thread is towards the bottom of the page, good luck!

For the part-time conversion it is necessary to break into the t-case to change a piece or two,plus l/o hubs.I wouldn`t put any of those but the 205 in a 67-72.You should be able to find a trans/adapter/t-case combo for a resonable price.

The Rockwell T221 is part time, gear-driven, 1.94:1 low range. It uses an oddball pto hole. I had one in my truck, but it blew up, so I am not too fond of them. They came divorced and married, mine is married, but it is the "rarer" of the 2 setups. I really wouldn't advise swapping one of these into anything. Just go NP205- so much more information and aftermarket parts support. Heck, a manufacturer just introduced a 3:1 low range for it.

You will need to decide what trans you want to use.The 205 has different input shafts.The 203 is a strong case,but is full time.Easy to convert to part time.You need to take the tail off and change a few parts.You should already have front hubs.You need to put it in 4wd every 200 miles to lube it after conversion.I feel the 203 is stronger than the 208.The 203 is heavy.Both are chain drive.
You could also go with a doubler,that combines the gear drive off the front of the 203 with the 205.$$$ for hard core offroad.
