67-72 4x4 t-case

Did most 67-72 Chevy/GMC trucks have divorced or married t-cases?

I have a married Rockwell 221 that has internal issues, and probably will need to convert to an NP 205 sometime, which doesn't seem to be any big deal according to past threads. Which is better, divorced or married? Is it any harder to swap from a married t-case to a divorced one?

More married t-cases.Doesn`t a divorced set-up need a trans and a t-case crossmember? The front d-shaft will be longer and the rear d-shaft will be shorter. You`ll need the t-case linkage for a divorced set-up.

Re: 67-72 4x4 t-case

If you are just going to replace your transfer case, the easiest swap would be to either another married Rockwell, or a married NP205. You'd need the adapter and sleeve out of the 205 donor vehicle, and then the x-member would have to go back a little bit. And the driveshafts would need attention then too.

If you went divorced, you'd have to get a 2wd tranny (or rebuild your current 465 with 2wd parts), a divorced transfer case, and then the jack shaft (that goes between tranny and transfer). I don't know if you could keep the stock x-member, perhaps if you found a divorced T221. Then you'd have to fabricate a linkage.
