Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
I see the early classic enterprises offers a quick ratio steering box and wonder if any board members here have it? What and how much difference is there? Would you do it again? Also anyone with a long bed who has it? I know truck are trucks not race cars but just wondering on the handling.
I know a guy who had 63 and had been converted to p/s and it was too sensitive with the steering ratio. It was just an old beater we don't know what was put on it but you had to be careful. |

Re: Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
Someone on here a while back said 77 or 78 trucks already have the quick ratio steering.

Re: Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
I have the quick ratio one from classic performance products in my lwb and I love it, gives it a real sporty feel. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
The 63 was probably put in off center becouse the frame didn't have the dimple for the box and they used spacers to clear the lump on the box.
The later trucks have variable rate steering. I don't know if they were quick ratio or not, maybe quickER, but not quick like a sporty quick. |

Re: Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
I have an ECE quick ratio box. It takes out a full turn lock to lock. It seemed a little sensitive at first but now that I am used to it I don't even notice it.

Re: Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
is that a sealed gearbox (i.e. no hoses or PS pump needed)?

Re: Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
I put a variable ratio box in my '71 and absolutely love it. Being variable ratio, you don't really notice it that much on the highway. I think it is a huge improvement on the crooked mountain roads that I drive.

Re: Anyone have the quick ratio steering ECE?
This is a great thread. I had decided to put one of those ECE quick ratio steering boxes on my truck and after reading the positive comments on this thread I'm happy I made that decision. I'm figuring with the 1 1/4" front sway bar and poly bushings that I've already installed, the 3 1/2 ( 2 1/2 drop spindles and 1" lowered springs) / 5 drop with the super track bar and relocated shocks and quick ratio steering box my longbox big block truck will handle like a sports car.
