any experience with the roll-on bed liner?

I'm going to be placing a different bed on the 68 and although the bed has some surface rust it is green in color (the 68 is white). I've seen the roll-on bed liner kits and I've priced someone doing the spray-on type. Has anyone used the diy kit? If so how difficult was it and how about the long term wear and tear?

I've used the duplicolor and herculiner roll ons. The duplicolor stuff was crap....even with good surface prep, it was flaking off within a month. The herculiner lasted a lot longer, but it faded some over time also.

Both were easy to apply...just follow the directions. Neither compare to a spray-on liner (linex, rhino, etc)

I`d get it Line-Xed.Roll-ons are a mess.They just crap up your bed.

Pay for a good job. I had the body shop put in linex when they painted it. It turns out they spayed some sh!t in there themselves and it chipped off as soon as I drug heavy over it. By then it was too late to do the job right. Pay more now and be happy or be cheap and cry about it later like me.

I used the Bondo brand Truck Guard on a truck I was selling and really liked it. You can buy it at Advance auto parts for about $60. I can't say how long it lasts though.

The brush on stuff works great if you you don't use your bed much at all and you keep a tonneau cover on it. Otherwise it'll wear away and fade quickly. Also, like with any paint type stuff, you've gotta put some time in the prep for it to stick without flaking.

every hometime bedliner i've seen looks like crap// i see it anywhere on a classic vehicle i walk away wouldn't even think of buying it unless it's about 50% less than one with rust

68jimmy- In case you wanted to see a pic, this is how the Bondo brand turned out on the 71'. Nice glossy black with an even texture to it.

I gotta chip in. My best friend down in FL used the roll-on in his bed. It cracked and flaked in the FL sun in a matter of about 6 months, I think it was something called Herculeliner or similar. He peeled it off with a wire wheel, then went in and got Rhino Liner. That faded in about 2 years but they make a reapplication kit.

You really really get what you pay for - hands down the best, longest lasting liner jobs I've seen use Line-X. Line-X just has a killer product that was initially developed for the military (?) from what I heard.

I plan on getting my aluminum gas tank coated with Line-X. Probably gonna cost $100 or something but it's worth every penny. It's a far superior product to anything else out there.

i used duplicolor on my truck easy to do have had no problems flaking off you can scratch it off but thats a easy fiix just roll on some more i would recomend 2 coats i did mine about 2years ago with minimal fading and i live in texas where the sun shines all the time and it gets hot as............

I did the herculiner on one of my trucks. It's not hard to do but it did fade and wear down after a while in the weather. I think it is money well spent to have the spray-in-liner done. Just my .02 cents.

Go with a spray in. It doesn't matter which one they look good. I get compliments on mine all the time.

i did the roll in liner that walmart sells in my 96 z71. i used that bed for hauling bikes etc. never had it peal,fade etc.. worked perfectly fine for me. like said above if ya scratch it ya just add more. its all in the prep work. i sanded my bed with 320 grit,wiped down with cleaner (surface cleaner for paint jobs) then rolled/brushed it on. i did the job back in penn. but i lived with that truck here in phoenix for 4+years and never had a problem with it.
but if ya can afford the line-x then get that. its prob. thicker etc.

A guy I work with put a roll on liner on his brand new silverado the day he got it home. It lasted a short time & was peeling & looked like crap. Here he was with a brand new truck with a butt ugly bed.

Don't get cheap here, If you do, you will regret it later. I say pay for someone to have it spared on and pay the little extra for th 2 inch instead of the 1 and 1/2 inch

I used zolatone/zolotone something like that, did the prep correctly, sprayed it on nice... after 1 hot dry north california summer it started to peel and flake... I think i'm going to bite the bullet and have it rhino lined or something like that done around here

anybody use the SEM brand tintable spray in liner? thats what our body shop supply store sells
