A little more progress on the "Pack Rat"
I finally got a few hours to work on my truck. Actually it will be my son's truck when he gets his d.l. My son and I pulled the steering column after getting "the knowledge" from some of the guys at this forum. After several hours of unbolting, removing and cutting, we finally got the rusty bed and cab off. Ended up cutting all the frame bolts that held on the bed and cab. Our next plans are to remove the engine,transmission/transfer case and axles.
While removing the steering column we found a gadget attached to the column with a hose clamp. (last pics) The rod ran up the column towards the steering wheel and would move up and down. It also had two wires attached which I cut and did not trace. The Po did not install this and did not know what it was used for. Do you? The last bit of news is that my GMC (which has been at the paint shop for almost three months) is finally being worked on. Hopefully I will get it next week.
