Re: Waddya think......

Whoa
Looks like it sits flush between the bedrails?
Did you fabricate that yourself?

Will rain be able to get into the bed?

Nice job. Looks real clean between the rails.

Re: Waddya think......

I will run some white thin foam weather strip along the inside of the rails. It's a real tight clearance now and I'm not that much worried about anything wet seeping inside. Will post a few new pics of the bed interior when it's installed today.....more therapy at ye old shop

Re: Waddya think......

Did you have a donor lid to work with, or is that all from scratch

If it is from scratch, have you considered making one for a Blazer

Re: Waddya think......

Can it open up the other way as well? I'm curious as to why you put it so that it opens to the front? I'm sure you'll probably never haul anything with it, but that's kind of awkward... your going to have to reach under at the back through the tailgate opening or squeeze/reach through the opening at the front

With that said, you did an awesome job on it and it looks really great.

Re: Waddya think......

Thanks everyone!!

Yup, it opens the other way too. Almost all of the covers I've seen almost always open from the back. I wanted to be a bit different and made this so it opens both ways, and in another configuration I can open from it side to side.

Yes I used my old lid I made some 4 or so years ago out of cabinet grade plywood, resin, and filler. It was a great piece but with all the chemicals interacting against each other, it started bubbling at all the seams.

This one is 1" square tube frame, and 14 ga one piece sheet metal trimmed to fit using the old cover as a template.

Here is the rough-in of the bed interior, will final install tomorrow.
