Seat belts

My 1988 sub has only lap belts in the rear. I want to install a 3 point belt. I found a web sit that makes replacement 3 point belts. My question is regarding the new anchor point for the shoulder harness.

Has anyone had experience with doing this? I assume that creating a new anchor point would not be that difficult. I guess I am concerned about the strength.

Re: Seat belts

I've actually done this for my 85. there are bolt locations on the burbs for shoulder belts. All you have to do is put holes in the interior trim. It is no problem to do for the middle seats. The rears present another issue, as there is no place to mount the lower part, unless you fabricate something. I have not done that as of yet. I actually got the belts from another user on this site. Grey belts in a blue sub look Ok....

Re: Seat belts

Cool!

The middle seat is what I was talking about.

Thanks,

Re: Seat belts

For the sake of info....

My 1988 sub has exactly what MASiefert described on his 85. Like uncovering buried treasure. Anchor screw hole right where it was suppose to be under the interior trim.

Re: Seat belts

Yea, if anybody knows or has fabricated something for the rear seat, I'd love to see it.

Re: Seat belts

its easy as said above, find the bolt hole, drill out the plastic (or in my case metal) in that location, get a proper size bolt with the larger shaft or buy proper anchor bolt, find a 3 point belt setup.

Re: Seat belts

Sorry, when I say Rear seat, I mean third seat. Current lap belt mounts to floor, next to seat. No room for a retractor, no holes on the side wall for the retractor included with newer versions. I think the non-retractible ones on the above website might work..... Was hoping to try it out with someone else's money...

Re: Seat belts

ok because some only came with 2 rows (as in my case), not a 3rd row. Also if i remember right some of the earlier burbs only had lapbelts across any seat behind the front...
good luck
