About to order rear drop springs....

I have a 64 C10 I have started redoing. I was wondering if the adjustable panhard bar is required when using drop springs in the rear? I am most likely going to order a 3 or 4" drop spring along with the new trailing arm bushings, new u bolts, shocks etc etc. I am using a 5 lug rear end which I assume is from a 71+ truck as it appears to look the same as the stock 64 except it has 5 lug axles. It was under a 66 parts truck I bought.

The guys at ECE told me I had to change the frame mount for the panhard bar on the frame on my 64 model if I put a 65 and newer rearend into the truck.

You'll notice your stock 64 panhard bar runs from the frame to a large metal bracket on the right axle tube. But, on your later model 5 lug rearend, the panhard locates to a stud atop the center pumpkin of the differential instead of a bracket on the right tube.

Terry at ECE told me to change the frame mount over to a 65 and newer one and then use a 65-72 model panhard setup.

In my opinion, you'd be advised to use an adjustable panhard bar with the 4 or 5 inch drop.

...also if your truck is a "fleetside",you might have to trim 1" out of the rear weel well lip for good clearance....

The trucks are out at my land so I will have to go out there and check. I am thinking someone might have just swapped in some 5 lug axles into the 66 rear end cause I do not recall the wheel well being trimmed any. Any way to ID what year rear end it is? Thanks for the replies guys. I always double and triple check all this stuff before ordering. One of the many great reasons to have this board.

Firefighter I saw today what you mean about how the panhard bar attaches to the rear end. Luckily I have the 66 for parts and I guess I can just bust those rivets holding that mount to the frame and use it with a bit of welding right? The one that was under the 66 was on an ear to the side of the pumpkin. I assume thats what you were referring to. Going to check out a few more things and then get to ordering some stuff. Thanks

I have a 65 chevy fleet and I had the bar on the pumpkin but now its on the right trailing arm. I think it was like 63 and later that had the onees mounted on the axle tube.

Thats definitely different than any I have seen. I was thinking the panhard bar had to be attached to the rear end itself for centering purposes ........I am far from an expert though trust me lol.

Can you get a better pic of how it attaches to the trailing arm please?
