b, r, g, y, bl???

I was hoping someone out there could point me in the right direction. I need to hook up a tach, and I have 5 wires, blue, red, green, yellow, and black. I am no good with wires, so if someone could walk me through it.....it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: b, r, g, y, bl???

been there, tried that.....couldn't come up with anything. I found some instructions that appear generic, but the color combo doesn't match. I pulled the cover, and the red, black, and green go together, so I assume that the red is the 12v power, the black is ground, and the green will be plugged into my dash lights. Now, I am left with a blue and yellow wire. The instructions I found said the two signal wires would be green and brown, so I am at a loss.....the instructions said to hook one to the neg. terminal on the coil, and use an inductive pickup to hook up to the coil wire lead.....but they also said this would be a special shielded wire.....and my tach has no such pickup......any ideas?
Oh, and when I pulled the cover, there are two white wires coming out of a seperate area of the back of the tach, that have tape over them.....they do not appear to have ever been connected to the original wire harness.....so I have no idea what they could/would do.

new one by me...sounds old and outdated.
NORMAL tachs...for the last 20 years or so, have had green for the coil neg... or tach terminal on the HEI, black ground, red switched power, and white to the dash lights.

it is old, but I was going for a classic look, didn't find any 'new' tachs that had the look I was going for......ttt hopefully someone can figure these wires out for me.

Re: b, r, g, y, bl???

if it possible that the red, green, and black are my positive, ground, and neg. on the coil, and that the blue and yellow would be a positive and negative for the lights? The author in the link above states that sometimes the lights are white, but he has seen blue and yellow......is it possible this is a seperate circuit that requires another ground?

Re: b, r, g, y, bl???

To see if it will work hook it this way:
1--Red to power source
2--green to negative on coil
3--black to ground
4--leave other wires off
This sounds like a tach has to have a sending unit (one from the '60's)

Re: b, r, g, y, bl???

already set to 6cyl.
Does it have to be a fused power source?
Not sure if I should piggy back off something else, or just run it to the battery.

Re: b, r, g, y, bl???

it has to be to a switched souurse... IGN unfused at teh fuse box. If you run it to the battery, you'll have a dead battery in the morning... or if it sits for a couple days anyways.
