Can you Fit Subs???

Can you fit subwoofers in a 73 Chevy C20 regular Cab???
What box would i use? a standard truck sub box? any one have pics of any in their truck?? would be much appreciated!!

it cannot hold anything huge.. about a sub with a 5 1/2 inch mounting depth but its better than nothing,,,

so should be able to fit two 10's fairly easy? use that to make the box?

Nothing special but works... well rather it worked(trucks off the road right now). Without the 6x9 boxes there I can have the seat all the way back but as it is there i have to have it 1 notch forward.

Building audiophile grade home speakers is another hobby of mine, and ive come to the conclusion that 1 or 2 10's behind the bench is pretty much the sweet spot. Any more is not gonna do any good. Its just bad box design. Now you can get into fancy custom setups, but not with a bench.

Another good investment is some tweeters in the pillars. A simple X-over will do wonders and you will have a pretty full range of sound with some 6 1/2's in the doors or 4" in the kick panels.

Be careful when choosing 10" subs though. I had intended to use a pair of 10W0s that I had around until I pulled one out of the box and discovered that it's about 5 feet deep! My Adire Koda is almost an inch shallower than my 10W0s. Since I want to keep my seat all the way back, I've got to be careful with subwoofer depth.

I have a couple 12's in Q-Logic boxes.
They sound great, but the speakers aren't getting the air space they require.
The boxes are big which requires the seat to be pushed forward 2-3 notches
from all the way back. This moves you closer to the steering wheel. Too uncomfortable for most. When I get around to redoing the door speakers and maybe getting kick panels I am probably going to sell these boxes and get something smaller (10's) so I can get the seat pushed back more. I used to 10's behind the seat and the bass wasn't enough. I went to the 12's and I was happy. Now I want the space back and will settle for some 10's.

The amp pictures show how you can mount smaller amps under the seats.
There are dips under the seat that allow you to mount the amps there so
they are not touching the bottom of the seat. Before I had an amp about
twices as long as the Sony, without any problems.

Whether you buy or build your own box I suggest you put the seat where you
want it then take the measurements to determine the largest box/speaker
setup you can fit in your space. Then go shopping. If you spend the money
and get a really nice amp and subs you can get incredible sound from a small
setup. You just have to pay more for quality.

BTW I got that Sony Amp at Circuit City on close out.
It was $199.99, but on close out I got it for $70.00.
It was NIB, never opened. They had (4) of them.
Its been a great amp, very dependable and decent power.

Not sure what you are after on your system, but I would highly recomend against sony.

ive had 3 or 4 defferent setups in my truck from 2 8's to 2 12 to 4 12's behind my bucket seats to 2 15s which i have in a console now, only draw back that i kinda regret is that i should have started with buckets along time ago because the ones i have are alot smaller than stock ones and i was able to run a little bit bigger box on the bottom for air space

I'm no audiophile when it comes to car stereo but my system sounds great to me. I am old but I still love lots of bass. Always have. Maybe it's why my hearing is going away.

As for the Sony Xplods, I have two 12's (my setup in the links posted by C-10volvo) and love them. I'm sure there's better ones out there but to me, they are perfect. They provide all the bass I would ever want to hear in a pickup.

Yes it is just a Kenwood Box. I bought it off a buddy for really cheap, but they weren’t to expensive from Kenwood (if they still sell them). I would recommend getting a better amp then what I got. A amp can make or break a system!

I'm fabricating the center consol as a reverse sub box. ans then some pod speakers for the doors (mb quart) as well as 6x8 mbs in the cab corners, but this requires a custom seat application.

yeah i hear that guys.The guy a bought my truck from put in all sorts of subs but removed the whole system when i bought it. so i have wiring for an amp a blowpunk head unit and a cheap set of 8's in a pre fab box. i have no speakers in the cab corners. This is my question i can't find 4x10's any were. were can i get them or is there a better way to put somthing in the cab corners. If so what?

i was goin to do a reverse console with the subs facin out but i like ppl wanderin what i got in my truck since all u feel is bass, in my corner im runnin memphis 6x9's and i bought the brackets at a swap meet for little of nothin sht i just recently clean out my shop since rita fecided to destroy it and i found 2 more sets of 6x9 corner brackets

i've got an audiobahn 10" sub that i was going to make a box for that fits over the tranny hump and faces at about a 45* angle to the seats. see if i could find some green carpet to match my interior and there ya go! what do you guys think?

not too much but here is mine. 2 12's. sounds pretty good. only had to move the seat forward about an inch.

how do subs sound in a truck? are they extra loud (if so good) since its in such a small area compared to a car....do you have any problems with rattling? dont really wanna pay the $$ for dynomat lol
so you guys are just using standard truck boxes? i see some for like 88-98 chevy trucks etc never seen one for 73-87 so iam guessing you guys are just buying standard truck boxes?

mine is just a standard truck box. only problem with a truck box is a lot of good woofers won't fit because the boxes aren't that deep. i have 2 lightning audios in mine and was pretty surprised at how good they sound i have no rattles or anthing. put out a decent amount of bass too. here are a few more pics. only have about $1000 in everything.

you can get the kick panel from crutchfield or a couple of other suppliers. come with infinity tweeters and i believe 5 1/4's or 6 1/2's. they are component speakers, don't cost that much and even come in your vehicles color. you can do a google search for kick panel speaker enclosures for the best price. the lightning audio 12's fit no problem, they aren't that deep. wanted hifonics woofers but all of them just had too big of a magnet to fit in a shallow box. i have the hifonics amp running the box and the concorde working the component speakers. the kickpanel enclosures are the best i've heard because the direct the mids and high's directly to your listening position.
