Throttle control
How common is to have a throttle control on your dash board? It looks factory but I'm not really sure. All the rest of the knobs the discription is part of the dash panel but this one is removable. The throttle works pretty well it unscrews out to hold the foot feed in place or you can pull it out, to turn the engine speed down push it in or turn it down. Is there any places out there that make replacement parts, I've had to do some custom motifying to get the cable to work.

I've seen a few of them on trucks that were equipped with PTO's for winches, hoists, etc. It enables you to idle the engine up to run the pto faster.....would be very handy in cold weather for warm up purposes as well.......I'm pretty sure it was a factory option.

I also have this throttle cable and I really don't know why my truck came with it other than to use it for warming up during cold mornings or a poor man's cruise control. Not that I would suggest using it for that purpose!

My friend's 69 has that throttle control and we always just assumed it was an early version of the cruise control?

Not a very safe Cruise Control. I would have to go with the warmup or PTO idea.

my truck has it, and it is listed in the build sheet.
What mine was for was for running the engine up a little for electricity to run a camper, and recharge batteries used by the camper. My truck also has dual batteries, so these big batteries to get recharged after being run down overnight by camper heaters and such, so all I do is turn the engine up to ensure a good charge, and leave it. Idle speed is not sufficient run power the camper and recharge the batteries.

ABSOLUTELY a factory option. K31 - Manual Throttle Control. Should be on the glovebox sticker.
My '68 has one, and I researched the heck out of it. Don't use it for cruise unless you have a suicidal streak!

Dad's '67 C-10 (I-6) had one of these. No PTO that I knew of but that was before I knew what a PTO was. The truck was a plain jane 6 cyc, 3 on the tree, lwb fleetside. He bought it new in Cleveland OH, him and GrandPa drove it to Calif. and loaded up Mom and us 3 kids and everything we owned in the truck, a 6x8 U-haul and Mom's 65 Frod Fairlane wagon. Then headed East back to Ohio........Summer of '67.

Wow thanks for all the info mine is right under the choke. Your right it is listed in the glove box sticker, I don't know what I was thinking Oh well, still cool knowing there are all those others out there

Maybe one of y'all has some picks of the throttle and choke linkage to a 1 barrel rochester. Mines a 57 235 but any L6 should be similar. Mine were disconnected and I'm try to figure out how to reconnect them .

acme, they don't hook to the carb (at least in my '68 it doesn't). It goes through the firewall right behind the throttle linkage, and connects to the throttle linkage. '71s and '72s are probably different because they had a cable control instead of linkage.

Oops, we all glossed over the "replacement parts" question.
I know that Chevy Duty sells some of the parts. I'm pretty sure LMC does too. You might want to ask some of the vendors that visit this board too.

Redneck cruise control! Well my longhorn wasnt optioned that way, but the 383 doesnt need a choke to crank off. I took the flapper out of the 1407 edelbrock,& left all the linkage. No.....I dont use it for cruise control,but for warming the the eng up. It did come in handy when i broke a throttle cable though........altho a little different to drive with a "gas cable"! Crazy AL

Sorry. I have cables too. I have a bracket for the cables on the carb but it's different from the one on my 66.

I was under impresssion it was to bump up idle and told it was for ac trucks when compressor kicks on,idle drops and you could bump it back up.i like for cold mornings idea
