Thanks 70 CST! Now I can go back to frame stripping and not worry about that until later!

Just remember.....the small block mounts are not as strong as the BB mounts! The sb mount "nut" is imbedded in the middle of the rubber of the mount and the BB's nut is welded on the engine side of the mounts steel plate!! Greg

Re: Engine Mount Tower?

Yeah, I mentioned that once in another post and was bombarded with...Damn, you paid what ($150 apiece [$300 for a pair] for the correct rubber mounts), I bought $15 ones at Autozone and they work fine!! My thought was well my BBCs (I have 5) put down some power and there is no way in heck I am trusting $15 mounts to hold my 496 down, let alone the 454's. I know they work, and if you're using them more power to you, but I believe in Murphy's law too much to chance it.

Re: Engine Mount Tower?

The smallbock ones seem to hold up really well. I bought them new from GM and there are very strong. I am running a 454 LS7 so the have been put to the test several times, LOL. I have been contemplating going to a poly mount tho just for a better mount, with that interlocking safety feature

Re: Engine Mount Tower?

A cheap insurance is a short length of chain bolted from the left side of the engine block to the frame to keep the engine torque from lifting on the mount too much. Just keep it slightly less than taught so it doesn't transmit vibration too much.

Not real sexy I know, but it does work.
