LMC bolt on exhaust
anyone running a lmc bolt on 2 1/4" dual exhaust on their 67-72?? if you do hows the sound, quality, and look of the exhaust? if you have pics that would be awesome! thanks. heres the link and its the bottom one.

I put a kit on our '72 C10. Fit great, instructions are poor you have to figure out where each piece goes. I got the turbo mufflers and they are pretty weak. Haven't had it on the road yet, just driving in/out of the garage and on the trailer. Hope to have it on the road next week.

I put one of their dual kits on this truck. I got the glasspacks because I really like the sound of glasspacks...old school I guess...anyway, other than being fairly loud, the quality was good. I agree that the instructions were POOR! If you got a shortbed, you have to cut the system too. Price was good though.

The 4x4 kit will have connections for a straight down ramhorn, so you don't want that for a 2WD
Have any of you with 4x4s tried this kit. It is in my plans, and wanted to know what problems you had other than the lack of instructions.

I installed the kit on my truck. I was a little worried about having to cut it to make it for a shortbed, but it worked out well. I got the turbo mufflers, and I think they are fine. I like it a little quieter. I did mine laying on my back... a lift would have been nice. When I had my truck at the body shop with the bed off, I was able to get the tailpipes leveled out better.

I had the LMC kit with turbos on my '70 shortbed. The directions did suck, and I had no idea what pipes went where at first. I eventually had the mufflers angled in a v next to the driveshaft, and the tailpipes exited the rear a bit pigeon toed After about 3 months 1 muffler split down the middle and the skin was flapping and making a horrible noise. Needless to say I ripped the whole thing out, put in headers and Summit turbos that exited before the rear wheels.

I had one on the 68 with the turbo's, and I loved the sound! Real easy to install even on my back. I fully welded it after I got everything where I wanted it, and when I pulled the truck apart after the wreck, I got it all out in one piece (I put in a crossover too). It's been sitting outside ever since, and still no rust.

thanks for the feedback! i am assuming the installation is just drilling the frame for the hangers on the other side?? lemield do you have any pics of it from the rear or underneath towards the back? i want to see if they sag or hit the body at all. thanks

I looked at the LMC kit, but I am going with the Summit kit. The headers I have suck, so I am replacing the whole thing. The basic kit is $242 and includes new headers. I will mock it up, then shoot the whole system with high temp header powder coating I have. The flat black will match the truck nice and I couldn't beat the price anywhere.
I have used the Summit mufflers before and I like them. Quiet at idel, but throaty when you open it up. |

Here is mine. Although I ran the pipe under the trailing arms when I think they should have been ran on top, it still fit together just fine. No clearance issues with the panhard bar either, although it looks close.

I have the kits on both my blazers 4X4's work great and the price is nice. The oldest one is over 8yrs old so thats pretty good. There was a thread about this and someone posted a link Heartbeat/Heartthrob I cannot remember the name But it is the Company/System that LMC sells. I went to the website but didn't save it. It lists a lot more specific applications on the site Didn't check if it was any cheaper

I did not use the LMC kit, I got the Hooker dual kit from summitt. It was well under $200 , but mufflers are extra. Driver side fit great ,Pass side fit was very bad. They use the same headpipe from the manifold for both sides, and even without using a heat riser valve ,the part of the headpipe to the first bend was too long. Had to cut it and splice a coupling. Also, hooker uses 16 ga NON aluminized tube , so if you dont 't paint with hi-temp paint , it's rust time...And that no look good. Maybe LMC is the way to go on this one.

I will definately buy that kit again when the 68 goes back together. Only this time I will install it before the body and bed go one the frame.
A few of the reasons I went with this kit: * Aluminized pipe * Mandrel bent, no kinks in the bends * Cheap * Mufflers sound good (for my liking anyhow) I am debating between using headers or not. I will need to do some cutting and splicing to the pipes if I do. My other option is to ceramic coat the stock manifolds. That is the route I will probably go, just because I want to have subtle little differences on the truck this time. Also, check the price of the kits through JC Whitney before you buy from LMC. They are the SAME EXACT KIT, made by the same company. They may be cheaper through JCW.

sounds good but i think i am going with headers and flowmasters with a 2.5" mandrel tubing. a shop said if i bring the mufflers and headers in then theyll do it for 200 with all installed and welded with hangers. found a guy that sells headers for 100 here in town so that takes away my option for the lmc exhaust. thanks all for your help and i hope this thread is helpful for other members here!

Dynomax (i think) has a 2.5 dual kit for 67-72 4x4s. It's for headers though, not manifolds. 260 bucks.
I wouldn't order from JCWhitney, and probably won't anymore. Anytime I have ordered from there, they always sent the wrong parts. So the LMC exhaust is a nice kit for 4x4s? How fast do the pipes rust out? Also, what is good paint to spray the pipes with to help prevent them from rusting? |

no this is a guy i know hes making them for me at no cost. he generally makes sets for like 240 or so. he worked for dons hotrod shop here and they make some reputible headers. alot of people i know have had them on their cars and trucks. he said hell make the same set for me for 100. i am not buying a cheap set of headers, just buying headers for cheap.

As of right now the system doesn't leak and currently doesn't look rusty from the outside. Don't bother with paint on the pipes. I believe that would be a waste of time. Exhaust, even stainless steel, rusts from the inside out.
