Carpet Group Purchase

I've decided to try organizing a group purchase for carpet. I just recently became a supporting vendor, and I want to see how this goes.

Here's a description copied from one of my earlier posts about the carpet:

Carpet: I used to sell ACC carpet, but I found out the hard way that it's just not a great product. I've got it in my GTA and it faded badly within two years... noticable within one. A lot of other guys have had their gray carpet turn green, and their black carpet turn green too. For my Camaro I started looking for better options, and I found another manufacturer that has a much better product. The Cut Pile carpet is thicker and more plush than ACC, and it won't fade so badly. Fortunately, it's around the same price as the ACC stuff too.

I built a web page to show the models that are eligible for this group purchase, along with pricing. Pricing is broken down into 3 group purchase levels: 10-19 buyers, 20-29 buyers, and 30+. This obviously means that the more people who join the group purchase, the cheaper the product is. Since this GP is for all generation trucks, hopefully enough people will join in to make the savings better.

There are 4 different types of carpet available, 80/20 Rayon/nylon loop, 100% nylon loop, Cut Pile, and Premium Cut Pile. The first three are all the same price and account for the first set of prices. The premium cut pile costs more, so it has its own pricing structure. The 80/20 is what most pre-74 vehicles came with, and is a good choice for your stock restoration. The 100% nylon loop looks very similar, but because it's nylon, it holds a tighter loop and doesn't get as "fuzzy" over time. This carpet has less colors available, but may provide a texture that some people prefer. The standard Cut Pile is similar to the stock carpet in newer vehicles, except that since the Dorsett carpet is higher quality, it's thicker and much more consistant than either OEM or ACC Cut Pile. This carpet is great for a daily driver, or an older vehicle that you're upgrading for a more modern looking interior. The premium cut pile is even thicker, with a denser concentration of material. This is a great carpet for a show truck.

I will be happy to field any questions on this forum or through email (jim85iroc@yahoo.com).

What I would like to try is to develop a deadline for commited buyers. For now let's say May 12. That gives potential buyers 2 weeks to decide if they'd like to participate. By this time I'd like to have a finalized list of those who intend to buy so that we'll know how many buyers we have, and what the corresponding pricing will be. Once we draw the line, the pricing will be finalized, and payments will be due within 2 weeks. That way the order can go out on May 26th. Since this is my first GP here and I don't know how receptive everybody will be to the GP, dates may need to be adjusted to accomodate members. We'll take that as it comes.

Oh yeah, here's the website I threw together:
http://www.iroczone.com/jim/carpet/TruckGP.htm
Please ignore the deadline date on the site.

Take a look at it and please let me know if you guys have any questions.

Thanks
--Jim

Re: Carpet Group Purchase

I need carpet by June 1, I am guessing that with this timeline that wouldn't work for me, but if you believe otherwise let me know and I'll be in.

Re: Carpet Group Purchase

I just bought a carpet set for my 1 ton from these guys: http://www.auto-interior.com/ The quality was far better than I expected. The carpet was every bit as good as OEM, if not better. Great color selection, excellent detail (trimmed out hole for the brights) and it was only $99.99 for the regular cab. How does your quality compare and is that the best price you can do on a group purchase.

Re: Carpet Group Purchase

They appear to be selling the ACC carpet that most other places sell as well. The carpet that I have is a significant improvement over the ACC. I used to sell ACC, but decided to stop selling it because I discovered that the die process they use, while quite affordable, is not very durable. My tan carpet has turned yellow, and a lot of the black and gray carpets that I sold have turned green.

Because of that, I found a better product that is well worth the cost over the more common ACC.

Yes, I can so an 02 S10 as part of the GP. Just let me know what model it is (extended cab, standard cab, 2wd/4wd auto/manual, etc) and I can get you a price appropriate for the Group Purchase.

Thanks

So far the 67-72 guys are the only ones who have shown intrest, but since this is just the first day, I'd say the amount of interest looks pretty good overall. Unless interest dies off soon, I don't see a problem getting 10 or more guys.

I can get 2 piece floor mats, or I can get a full vinyl floor covering, but not an over-the-hump floor mat.

Vinyl floor mats are the same price as carpeted, and the full-floor vinyl covering is the same price as the carpet for a specific application.

Thanks

Re: Carpet Group Purchase

My 69 GMC (bucket seats and console) has carpet covering the gas tank.
Do any of your kits offer this option?

Do they go all the way to the rear of the cab? I plan to relocate the gas tank to an underbed unit.

Re: Carpet Group Purchase

I don't know if the carpet covers the gas tanks on these vehicles or not. I haven't installed carpet into that generation truck yet. My guess is that the carpet would cover the same as the stock carpet did.

I can call the manufacturer tomorrow to find out if it stops at the base of the gas tank or if it covers it. My guess is that it does not cover the gas tank.

Bulk carpet is available, so you could fabricate a piece to bridge the gap or cover the tank, or I can discuss having a special filler piece made with the serging that's put onto the floor-mats. That would definately cost significantly more than just buying bulk length of carpet, but it may be an option.

Re: Carpet Group Purchase

I have a 70 high hump that I am interested in getting blak carpet. I'm just not sure what kind I want. This is a daily driver that I do track dirt and mud into, however, I want it to clean easily, and look like the original style of carpeting.
Is there a way to get detailed photos of each kind of carpet?
I do need to know if the carpet covers the floor all the way to the tank (I don't need it to go over the tank personally) but since I have buckets, i don't want to look down and see sheet metal between the seats and console.

Yes, they are. They are pre molded, but will still require some trimming for a perfect fit. They come with a little extra material to account for various issues from car to car.

I belive that the carpet will extend at least back to the gas tank. I can't imagine the carpet only covering the front area, but I will be calling today to verify the exact fitment of the carpet.

I should have time tonight to take some detailed pictures of the 4 different carpet types that are available.

Re: Carpet Group Purchase

I called the manufacturer on my lunch break to find out about the carpet. She described the carpet as extending from "the firewall to the back wall of the cab", but I've got to think that since the gas tank essentially makes up that back wall, that the carpet is designed to go to the tank, not beyond.
