700R4 column shifter?

I'm trying to get info from a guy on a truck, but unfortunately he doesn't know much about it.

He says it has a 4-speed put in it. (He doesn't even know what a 700r or 4l60 is though.)

It has a column shifter, does this mean it's a 3-speed?

I really don't want to waste my time driving to see it if its a 350, not for what he's asking.

Re: 700R4 column shifter?

If it is a manual tranny the 4 speed will be on the floor, no column shift.
Automatic's (stock) were always on the column, which were either a PowerGlide (2 speed), Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 ( both 3 speeds). If he added an automatic over drive tranny it is proably a 200R4 or 700R4 (4 speed both). It could also be a more modern electronic 4l60 4l80, but they normally reuire a computer to work right. Most put in the 700R4 or 200R4.

If I heard they put in a 4 speed, I think manual tranny not automatic. My first question would be does it have a clutch or not, then you can go from there. If it is an automatic, unless he went with and aftermarket shifter, they are all on the column.
