Hey Slammed....i noticed your shock relocator brackets are mounted on the TOP side of the crossmember. Do you have any trouble with them hitting the bottom of the bed??
I mounted mine on the bottom.....was actually looking at that this past weekend...and thought "If i mount those on top, then the shocks would be in a more "up & down" position, as opposed to "laid over." |

doesn't look like they're hitting the bed in the picture!!!
my fuel cell is similar exept the top of it sits about flush with the frame

Shane: On a stock truck, those brackets would hit the bed floor. However, my bed floor is raised 1-1/2". I did that so when the bags are deflated, the top of the differential won't hit the bed floor. Some guys just cut a hole but I think that looks tacky. You are correct, putting them in that location puts the shocks in more of an "up and down" position. Once the floor was raised, I noticed that I could also raise my fuel cell and also put those brackets on top of that crossmember. However, right now the tops of the shocks are just barely touching the bed floor, so I'll have to either fab up some shorter brackets or modify those.
Jay-Dawg: No, that price does not include mounting straps.... they are sold seperately. I bought the straps, but had to modify them to get my fuel cell in the proper position. So I probably could have just made my own for less money.

Hey Slammed, how did you go about raising the bed floor? I thought about doing that or just having a removable piece where the center section of the rear is. That way if I needed to use the bed, I could just raise it back up and drop in the panel.

hey slammed
when you get the tank with the sending unit does it just hook up to our gas gage? Is there anythhing else to do? Also if you find one out of a salvage car with the sending unit will it just hook up and work?
Thanks!

If you make new sides, just raise the bottom lip to however high you want the floor to be (which is essentially what I did). Then make "raising blocks" the same height that you rasied the floor and put those between the bed and the frame (to make up the height difference). On the stepside bed, I'm just not sure how raising the floor would affect the front bed panel and the tailgate.

Custom68: The sending unit that comes with the Summit fuel cell is a 90ohm unit, which is the same as the ones in our trucks, so it can be wired to the stock gauge. As for junk yard units, it would depend on what you got it out of.

cool Thanks Slammed
I guess if I go to the yards I will need to do some checkin and a little homework. Sounds like what you did is the way to go.
Thanks

Yeah, I had thought about that, I would probably create a new lip on the front panel, but still have the panel extend down to tie into the bedsides, and probably a filler panel at the rear to cover the gap between the new floor and tailgate hinge(may be a good spot for the gas filler ). I wouldn't want to change the proportions on the tailgate.
