283 in six hole?
What is wrong with having a 283 mounted in the 6-cyl holes? Mine appears to back against the fire wall but not touching so there appears to be adequate clearance. Is there a problem with this? If I put it where it is supposed to be will I need a longer driveline?

No trouble, I have done several that way! I have a 383 in my longhorn.......tossed the V8 stands, & opted for 6/250 stands to set it back a bit. the HEI dist is tight, but clears the firewall,& will come out of the eng if the cap & rotor are off. If you set back up on V8 stands, your driveline will be approx 3 1/2" too short.......hey if it works, why mess with it? best of luck......crazy longhorn

I have the exact same thing. My 283 is sitting in the six position.
I bought the v8 towers to move it forward when I put my sb400 in there, but now I'm thinking that I'm just going to leave it alone. I do want to get a 4x4 fan shroud, though. I don't like my fan sitting outside of the shroud.

I have been running a 73 up waterpump & accessories to put the fan in proper location. I am now in the process of setting a dual elect fan setup..........more power at the wheels! the first swap i did , I had a 5" spacer behind the fan but a 6500 rpm shift on the M 21 sent the fan into the radiator......oops. the fan ,pulley, & hub were still bolted together,the hub just came off the pump............crazy AL
