torque converter question?
Ok, I have a Bowtie OD 700R4 tranny and new engine. Bowtie says to unbolt an d push back the converter all the way into the tranny to break in new engine - before continuing with tranny setup. i've done that, trying to start the engine. Took a break, look at the converter and it looks like a conical bushing fell out of teh front of the torque converter? Is there a bushing on the front of the torque converter? I can't get the TQ to pull up to the flexplate. I am going to be seriously PO'ed if I have to pull this tranny out!!!
This has been a nightmare so far as it is....

Re: torque converter question?
err, there is no bushing on the front of the TC that i've ever seen.
is it a brass bushing you found? if the motor used to have a manual trans behind it, the crank shaft might still have the pilot bushing (brass) in the end of it. but even then i can't imagine it would fall out. they usually take some finese to remove. lets wait and see what others have to say on the matter. |

Re: torque converter question?
i can imagine bowtie od would have you unbolt the tc and slide it back, maybe to protect their warrantee? dunno, just a guess.
if the tc is unbolted then you can concentrate on engine break in and not worry about trans fluid level, line pressure, fluid temp, etc. |

Re: torque converter question?
Never heard of that routine before. I wonder how many trannys they get back for front pump repairs after someone starts an engine for break-in & the ring gear snags the convertor that is sitting @1/4" away not hooked up. Sorry, no help on the bushing problem. Was the bushing small like it was a temporary plug to protect the end of the crank during installation?

Re: torque converter question?
It's the front of the TC that I was seeing. I bolted the TC back to the flexplate, I just don't feel comfortable running the engine without the TC hooked up. Too little room for error.
Thanks for the replies!!
