original am radio install????'s

Are there any mounts for a original am radio or does it just hold in place by the chrome peices that screw in (outside the dash right behind the radio knobs), and sit on top of the flat place above the ash tray. thanks alot

Hi there,
There should be a small metal bracket on the back of the radio that ataches to the speaker mounting bracket in the dash. If I remember right the bracket looks like an L bracket. If you can't find the bracket I think it would be all right just to mount it as you have stated. i hope thi helps you out. Good luck.

there is a metal bracket, similar to what's described above, sort of like a gusseted angle. it attaches to the firewall and also supports the dash speaker.

the little bracket (litte angle piece L shaped 1 inch by 1 inch) on the back of my radio comes only within a few inches of the firewall. On the firewall there are two holes where my speaker bracket goes (speaker is a custom autosounds dual 4 inch deal). speaker hooks up fine after a little modification. The i was wrong when i said that the chrome things (behind the knobs) screw into the radio. So basically what i have is nothing to hold the radio in. What do you suggest. Thanks

There should be (2) cupped washers with the radio that are larger than the two knob holes. The radio slips into the dash from the inside and the cupped washers are installed from the outside using the right nuts for the knob shafts.

There is a rear brace that fastens to the speaker bracket and to the side of the radio. Attached is a picture of the speaker bracket with the rear brace attached to it.
