Question Drilling holes through my frame

Going to be putting tow hooks on the blazer , what's the best way to go about drilling the holes? Only have to do one hole on each side since the existing hole on each is already present. Do i just get the proper bit ,and go to town on it, or what? Any words of wisdom? (yes i'll be welding the nuts)

Thanks guys!

Re: Drilling holes through my frame

use center punch, center drill, pilot drill and then the finish size drill ... a pilot drill is HALF the size of the finish drill ... in other words, if you need a 3/4" hole as a finish hole, pilot drill it at 3/8"

Re: Drilling holes through my frame

use a small bit "1/8in" and drill the center points. then go ahead and drill with the larger bit or a unibit. i mentioned the unibit because it will litteraly drill to the size hole you want 2-3 times faster than a standard bit and there garenteed for life. they are a little expencive but it's well worth it to never have to buy another bit again.

Re: Drilling holes through my frame

This is excellent info, thanks so much for the help. I figured i'd use a center punch. I didnt think of using a bit 1/2 the size of the hole i'll need though, then finisng with a bit(or unibit, i'll look into this) that's the size of the hole i'll finally need. Thanks so much for clueing me in guys.

Re: Drilling holes through my frame

I used a unibit brand and it went through the frame like a hot knife through butter, literally less than 30 seconds per hole. Center punch it and go with the unibit. Done it several times.

On tough metals I always use some Tri-Flow (expensive WD-40) to help with the cutting. Same principle machinist use with cutting oils.
