why six lug!??!?!
just curious.....i see a ton of five lug trucks on this board and a ton of 6 lug trucks as well.....personally i like 5 lug, you have many more rim options and all the cool designs and clasic looks are in five lug.....just wondering why some trucks are 5 lug and some are 6....would you choose to buy six lug back in those days or what....mine is 6 i have a 1500......my friend has his truck it is the sae year.....69....and his is 5 lug....WHY? just curious

Well 67 - 70 Chevy/GMC trucks had Drumbrakes with 6 Lug Wheels all around but in 71 our trucks had Disc Brake Option which were 5 lug. Your truck must have Drum Brakes and your Friends 69 must have been upgraded to Disc along with a 5 Lug Rear..
If I have my option of buying an older truck, I would choose 5 Lug myself but not too many people know that you can upgrade your 6 lug drum brakes to 5 lug by just doing a 71 - 72 Rear End and 71 - 87 Front Suspension or even the Spindles, Rotors, Calipers and all mounting hardware.. This is what I am doing to my 68 after I cut my frame down !

well, from what i've heard and observed, 67-68 had 6 lug. all fours were drum brakes. When 69-72 it went to front discs, 5 lug all the way around. I think. But the other day, I saw a truck after 68, because it had a later front end. But it has 6 lugs. Did some of them come with 6 lug in 69? Anybody know?

The first 5 lugs were the disc brakes in 1971 all before were 6 lug
drums. You can convert early drums to 6 lug disc's(using later spindles) if you want to keep the same rear and only carry one spare tire. Correct me if I am Wrong on this.

all 8 lug
 even if youve got a drum 8 lug all you gotta do is change the front and youve still got 8 lug all the way aroundaint 3/4 tons and 1 tons wonderful:p

4 wheel drives kept 6 lugs thru '72, disc or drum.

Actually, 4WD 1/2 tons kept 6 lug through 2003, and starting in '99, 2WDs are 6 lug again also.

ok, so hows this, is six lug chevy, the same pattern since 67? or has it changed? in other words could i buy some 6 lug rims from 98 and put them on my 4x4? call me stupid

I know the bolt pattern is the same, the offset I am not sure about but it SHOULD work.

The bolt pattern is 6 on 5 1/2" for all years. In 1988, with the IFS trucks, the backspacing was changed from ~3 1/2" ('87 and older) to ~5 1/2" ("88 and newer). The center hole is also a different size, I think.
