What do these frame numbers mean?

Found this on my frame when I took me bed off. It says: CS10704 The C looks like an "E" but I think it's supposed to be a "C". It doesn't match my vin and it doesn't appear to be a date.... anyone know what these numbers are? They might not mean anything, but I thought it was cool to find the original chalk numbers on my frame.

PS - some members find these inside their engine bay area on the firewall/cowl area. it's something they sketch on at the factory on the assembly line with wax marker.

Interesting, I've seen trucks with the numbers on the cowl before.

So if I've got this right... the CS is a 6cyl 4x2 (which the truck WAS) 1 = 1/2 ton, 07 = Cab To Axle Dimension 07 = 42"-47", and the 04 = 04 = Stepside Pickup

Cool. I'm sure the frame is original. The truck was unmolested when I bought it (original paint) and the frame didn't have the dimple in it.

i have the same truck as yours, probably same options, except mine is a 68. didn't mean to mislead you.

i suppose they sketched this onto the frames when rolling through the line to make sure the right cab goes on the right chassis or whatever.

Your truck has 4 more options than mine (and yes, I do mean to say my truck had absolutey ZERO options from the factory, NOTHING)

don't let it fool you - seriously, the only option I have is heavy duty rear springs, which may or may not have been a "real" option at all. i suspect vinyl trim, the paint and painted bumper are just ... well ... something to pad the spec sheet with.

Shifty, this is my glovebox sticker, and according to longhornman the deluxe heater wasn't actually an option and neither was the blue vinyle trim???

I have deluxe heater list as an option on my 67, both on the build sheet & the glove box door.

I also have blue vinyl trim listed on my 70 GMC glove box.

I'm not real sure what the 1st word is in that message... maybe STRAIGHT?

I have found out some info on the heater deal. I have some dealer papers from a GMC dealer in NY, and one dated towards the end of 67 states;
Even though the heater has been standard for over a yewar, you have been instructed to specify it as an option. If not specified, a heater delete will go onto that truck, and a creadit will be issueed to the buyer.

So it was basicly an option that was standard.

The blue vinal, it turns out, actually IS an option. If there was noithing listed there, then it would go to the defult int color of fawn if memory serves.

The heater was optional before the 67 model, and in the 67 books, it shows an option for heat, but it has a line drawn through it and standard written under it.
The option for paint and int colors were to show what color it was going to be. I do think there was a 'base color' , but I have never thought of a single solid color as an option personally. (It's not even listed in options on the books)
So in all reality, you have a 0 option truck there."

I've been parting out a step side. Has that same number same place as you show your number. Did you install the fuel tank under the bed? What is that tank from ?

well, it was in fact speculation... now I have proof that says it was in fact standard, but left out if not requested.

Larry may: The tank is a reproduction tank I got off a board member that he had bought from Christian Classics. It's a 69-72 Blazer tank. Check out this thread (it has lots of pics)
