400 turbo filter question

I went & got a trans filter & gasket for my 400 but the filter I got is completly different from whats in it. The one thats in it looks more like a small muffler than a filter. Its a canister style with a turned down pipe at the end of it & the new one is flat. I wonder how many different styles there are. I guess Ill use the old filter. The fluid smells & looks like new & the only reason I ripped into it was because it has a HORRIBLE leak. Silicone in place of a gasket will do that (shaking head)...

Re: 400 turbo filter question

The canister style is from the 60's. Not sure exactly what year they went to the flat filter, I think maybe '67 or so.

Re: 400 turbo filter question

wrap the old one in rags and take it to the parts house.
Sooms kinda stupid to re-install the old one. Kinda like taking a shower and putting on dirty underwear.

Re: 400 turbo filter question

I think the filter change was in 68 or 69. I had a 67 SS Impala that had the tube one.
