Re: How many stay with factory colors

Mine is a Special Paint Option from the factory. Not too many were painted this color so when I repaint it again it will stay the factory color. The dash is still the factory paint and color.

I`ve been thinking the same thing.Asa,you should be a photographer for money if you`re not already. You definately have the "eye" for it.

Re: How many stay with factory colors

My 71 GMC will be factory "medium olive". It all depends on what you're building. I want a stock looking truck, fuel injected, dropped just a little, but like see ten's trucks and the others that have stock colors, it just really adds to the classic look. My 85 was painted factory colors and I get lots of compliments, not because the paint is so cool, just because the truck looks original with subtle changes. I believe some paint schemes actually make a truck look "tacky". JMO

Re: How many stay with factory colors

I'm living in confusion where the color of my truck is concerned. The original color was "Dark Bronze Irridescent" (sort of a chocolate brown with fine metal flake) with white cab and white below the lower trim (skirts). When I bought the truck it was painted over in orange except for cab interior and firewall. As time passed I did some body work / replaced panels etc. until it turned into a mix of orange, white, brown, black, green, burgundy as well as red and grey primer. I'm sure a lot of you have been there.

I painted the cab interior in "Real Orange" enamel with black door panels and glovebox door a few years ago with the intention of repainting the entire truck in white/orange/white.

But now that I think of it, I don't remember EVER seeing a dark bronze 1970 GMC truck in my travels. I know that painting the original color will be a far cry from making it totally stock, (HEI, front discs, tilt column, wagon wheel rims, and a few other mods done). As far as production numbers for 1970 GMC's made in Canada go, my truck is a relatively rare bird. Only 15,906 made that year compared to 27,000+ in the other years of that body style. I wonder how many of those were dark bronze?

So I'm still sitting on the middle of the fence, waiting until I have the resources and facilities to get this done.

Re: How many stay with factory colors

when I went to paint my truck years back I almost went with another color but decided to keep it original and now I'm glad I did, I love it! I went to an "old school" type shop and they had color chips from the original 67-72 chevy colors. and they had mine, med olive metalic green. they matched it as close as they could but with the leads and whatnot these days it wasn't perfect but pretty damn close.

Re: How many stay with factory colors

Mine is the light blue, and the inside of the cab is medium blue. It was like that from the factory and thats the way I'm gonna keep it.
