hold down bolt
okay got my truck back on the road yesterday with the rest of my brake lines from inlinetube well seems my Distributor has sliped out of place again i was having trouble with it cutting off at stop lights and adjusted the timeing with the Distributor the hold down is tight but i can not move the distbitor by hand it runs and stalls but when i readjusted it it stays running does this mean the Distributor has finally wore out? it is an oringal points style wasn't looking at replaceing it yet but guess will order new hei Distributor from advance auto out of an 83 chevy k-10 with 350 now this will be going into an 71 cevy c-10 will that make a difference? http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=218&ptset=A

Are you setting your timing with a timing light? Could be worn distributor bushings causing your point gap to vary or worn timing chain. I've seen timing chains with so much slack they actually rub a hole in the timing cover.

haven't bought a timeing lioght yet but yes call me an idiot but was adjusting by the way it sounds and runs ie pinging what not

if it is the hold down bolt. get a sharpie or paint and mark the distributor and manifold where it is after you set it up. if that mark moves later then it is moving.
