Power Steering for 292 6cyl???

Hey everyone. Been reading this board for a few months now (very nice board). Just wondering if anyone knows what is needed to put power steering in a 292 six-cylinder. Can it be done? Thanks.

Re: Power Steering for 292 6cyl???

It can. You an use the pump and gearbox off of any half ton truck (preferrably from a 67-72 as a gearbox off of a 73 did turn my truck into a clown car on the freeway).

My only problem was finding a bracket to bolt the pump to the block. I was so frustrated trying to find one, I gave in and made one from scratch. Ugly as Hell but the steering hasn't slipped once!

You need the pump, brackets specific to a 292, and the power steer gear box. Probably a new belt and new hoses too. Start searching for the brackets and the power steering pump. You can get the gear box and belts and hoses at your local auto part house if you need too. From time to time the pump and brackets show up on ebay.

Here's a link to a discussion with alot of info:
