1983 C10 weights
Hi All
an someone please tell me the curb weight for a shortbed C10 Also the gross laden weight Lastly, where is the reverse switch located, Column or trans?? Any info most appreciated Thanks Tim

The shortbed C-10 is around 4000 lbs without a load. I don't think I can safely answer the gross laden weight. The truck and axles on most are rated as 1/2 ton, but I have seen much more in one truck's bed. I can also remember the day that a person could order a shortbed 3/4 ton truck--now those were the days.
The reverse switch is on the column (on top, by the firewall, inside the cab) |

piecesparts is close.
The curb weight for a Fleetside is at 3,470 lbs. Add 450 lbs. (+/- 150lbs.) for the model weight. The weight scale at the local gravel pit weights in my truck between 4,500 - 4,600 lbs with the dual tanks nearly full and me sitting behind the wheel. But, I don't know how accurate their scale is.

My 77 Short Stepper weighed in at 4200 at the local garbage scales
 It has a 350 / 700r4 combo, without many other options.

My 84 GMC short wide bed weighed in at 4001 lbs before the fiberglass topper was installed. I have since removed the steel hood and installed a fiberglass cowl hood, which changed the weight about 60 lbs, to the lighter side. I have a 383 stroker/700R4 combo with a 12 bolt rear end.

Generally SWB's fall between 3800 to 4200 depending on the equipment installed. Base models with no power, no carpet and no A/C and base radio will be the lightest, generally around 3800lbs
Start putting power windows, power locks, larger mirrors, carpet, A/C system, speakers, more trim, all the wiring associated with this, power brakes, power steering, heavy duty suspension, HD brakes, bigger radiator, bigger motor and it starts getting heavier... 4000lbs is right in line with one of these trucks... the only way to know for yours exactly is to run it on some scales. I have weighed quite a few.. My newest one is going to be a lightweight!
