Distributor Preferences??

Well it had been giving some hints for a while that the distributor module was getting ready to take a hike.... and today it finally checked out. Lucky me it left this world right here in my driveway.... how fortunate is that!
Since the current dizzy is a rebuilt replacement that has over a hundred thousand mile of service on it, I'm leaning towards replacing the whole distributor.
The '82 GMC Classic did originally have the ESC but has been disconnected for the last 10 or so years...
So what would you pros reccomend as a nice replacement or upgrade?

Re: Distributor Preferences??

I am not a pro, but a Mallory was suggested by several people when I was asking about an HEI for a stock engine. I bought one from Summit. No problems so far.

Re: Distributor Preferences??

I prefer a stock HEI with a MSD 6a and blaster 2 coil, completly by-passes the stock module and coil [you actually remove them and just keep the distributor in there] Cost the same as a new stock distributor, about $200.

I agree with Tom. I have a GM HEI that came with the engine and I've only tweaked it with a vacuum limit stop and has worked great.

Re: Distributor Preferences??

Stock HEI dist need a new module in them to allow for more spark dwell and more power to be given to the plugs. An aftermarket HEI will already have that and you really dont need a spark box unless you race.

Go to www.performancedistributors.com they make one of the best but cost alot too. I have recomended the Mallory Unilite in here before because of ease of use. You need the dist with the coil of your choice except no stock ones.
