bed protectors
I am looking for bed rail & tailgate protectors (caps) for my 71 GMC Shortbox Fleetside. I can't find anyplace that lists trucks this old. Are there later years that will fit? I'm looking for either stainless or Aluminum diamond plate and prefer a full tailgate protector (although just the top strip would work)
Somebody must have done this????? Right???? -Mike

Re: bed protectors
I got some for my Dad's 72 at a van conversion place I used to work for, www.vanworks.com. I know just about any truck and van accessory shop sells them. LMC has them too.

Re: bed protectors
My dad got the smooth stainless for his longbed from LMC. They are the only place that I know of that sells these for 67-72's. He got all 4 pieces as seen in this crappy pic. My truck has the tailgate protector made by Putco. It was on the truck when I bought it.

Re: bed protectors
Every truck accessory and 4x4 shop around here can order then. There are at least three manufacturers that I can remember the make/market them. Try your local 4x4 shop first before going mail order.

Re: bed protectors
glock35ipsc- I just got off the phone with vanworks and he said he would check to see if they could them after I told him your dad got his there. I have checked high and low and the only ones I can find are for 73' and up which are too wide. LMC is the only place I have found for 67-72 but they are a little pricey.

Re: bed protectors
I picked up a SS tailgate protector from the Super Chevy Show
2 years ago, I had forgotten about it until this thread, I will try and see tomorrow if it has any part #'s on it, I've never used it.

Re: bed protectors
I just ordered mine. Here's what my research found......
LMC is the ONLY place I could find side caps or the front cap. The front cap is backordered and the tailgate protector is not available at this time from LMC! Edit:The tailgate protector is available from AmericanClassic.com for $35 (P/N TGX-2). I ordered the side caps from LMC for $140 (+$22.50 S+H) and the tailgate protector from AmericanClassic.com for $35 (+$32.00 S+H). Edit:(FYI: Putco #51610P is for a stepside. Found that out the hard way) I said screw it on the front protector. I'll check to see if is comes back into stock at LMC or try to find another source in the future. Thanks for all the info guys. -Mike
