The trans pumps out the upper fitting. Unless you live in a very cold climate I would run the lines from the upper fitting on the trans to the lower fitting on the radiator, out the upper to the lower fitting on your cooler, out the upper and return to the lower on the trans.

You ARE running a cooler though, right?
If not you need a new tranny guy.

the tranny guy suggested just using a seperate cooler..he said running it through the radiator actually heats the oil...I have been running it through just the radiator..as the engine heats up, the shifts get weaker..so Im figuring to just running it through a aux cooler instead

If not running it through the radiator it makes no difference as long as it's a tranny line out to the aftermarket cooler and back to the tranny. I run a moroso finned aluminum cooler mounted on a cross bar ahead of the radiator. Not cheap at 179.00 but I tow and haul heavy loads.

Your Tranny guy is right. Running thru the rad can magnify problems if your tranny is slipping which creates heat it will transfer that heat to the motor and cause it to heat too. If you have a motor thats running hot you will transfer that heat to the trans . The coolers in the rad can develope leaks also which will screw up your fluid and tranny internals. Both Chevy and GMC finally swapped to aux coolers on there trucks becuse of this. Run a good size cooler all by it's self. I'm doing the big B&M stack plate and I'm upgrading to larger 3/8 tubes.

Ok, i agree then, your tranny guy is OK.
Did he sugjest doing a tranny fluid and filter chainge?
It kinda sounds to me like your fluid is thin/broke down/contaminated.

get a tranmission flush that way all of the fluid is changed not just the 4 or 5 quarts in the pan.most shops have a trans flush machine. we charge somethin like 130 for our service which inlcudes changing the filter and doing the fluid flush
