trany cooler location

ok guys, i am almost on the road!!! i would like to know though from you experts where did you guys mount your tranny cooler???? right now mine is above the flowmaster under the cab. i don't think that it will stay there though (heat???) any suggestions or ideas would be very helpfull!! i am wanting to keep it behind the rad. support though. i would like it to be somewhere close to the tranny.

thanks for all the support from you guys i really need to post some pics of my "beater" if i can figure out how????

p.s. it is the finned type from b&m

thanks!

Re: trany cooler location

well as it's mounted now you would be really hard pressed to find a worse location unless you mounted it on the headers // i've always made mounts to mount in front of the radiator if using a typical rad core type of cooler or lately have switched to the heat sink type of frame rail cooler that requires less air flow to disapate the heat

Re: trany cooler location

dood
let me get this right. your cooler is stuck between your muffler and the floor of the cab.. man all a trany cooler is, is a great big heat sink.. and it can work in the opposite direction. if the area were you stuck it is getting hotter than your tranny then it is actually heating the fluid not cooling it.. if thats the case you are way better off taking it out. i would have to say its probably not hotter but it could be and why even take the chance... i wouldnt drive it under a large load until i got it to the front with cool air..

Yep, in front of the radiator. That way the fan is always pulling air through it.

Re: trany cooler location

thanks guys,
i will probably end up doing the recommendations. it originally was not on top of the muffler, when i discussed the location of the muffler with the shop they ( & i) indicated that it could be a little further back then where it is now. i guess they forgot that when they did the exhaust! hence the question(s).

thanks again!
