Smile Any students on here?

Just curious as to how many of us drive a cool truck to school (as opposed to what? Something uncool I guess...). It's cool meeting kids my age who take interest in these old trucks. I just recently met two Juniors (both have fleetside 68's) in my town that are building right now. And another dude (but goes to a different highschool) just pulled up next to me at a red light (in his yellow 72) and we started talkin' trucks right there at the light.

So now I owe each of them a drag race out on the backroads. Hopefully I won't get my entire butt handed over to me with the 2bbl upgrade (as two of them have 350's).

I'm 17 by the way.

Anybody else around that age on here that has experiences like this?

Re: Any students on here?

I am a junior in highschool and I drive my 70 long bed to school everyday. There is a kid at my school with a clean 72 3/4 ton long bed, and another kid with a late 80's shortbed, And this year my buddy kyle will have his 80 GMC there. Here is a camara phone picture of the 72, my 70, and the late 80's truck. My truck was even in the school paper for the beast of the month lol. I am getting my new wheels on before school starts so hopefully I can get in the year book.

Re: Any students on here?

I just graduated this year and I drove my 68 to school everyday. It was the only antique vehicle in the parking lot for a while till one of my buddies got a 65 fleetside towards the end of the year. One of my friends that went to a rival high school who just graduated as well has a 69 GMC short/step.

My truck was pretty well known at school (surprisingly a lot of girls liked it), I got in the yearbook this year after being voted as having the most stylish vehicle at school. Being known as a car guy already my friends started refering to me as "Chevy" after I got my truck, I figured it made sense.

I'm gonna garage my truck when I head off to college here in a couple weeks though, trying to save it up for a full restoration.

Re: Any students on here?

i'm 18, and just graduated highschool, however i didn't get a chance to drive the K20.

i plan on driving it to college next year tho, so there are still high hopes. it'll never be a show class truck, or even close to being "pretty". but, it'll sure be fun.

even without ever driving it, my friends knew me as the old chevy truck guy. along with the fact that i fired it up at my graduation party with open headers on the 292, and left a pretty decent burnout on the road in front of my house, before turning onto a dirt road to have some fun.

there was a guy at my school that bought a '71 C10, lowered. he put a 383 stroker in it...that was a fast chunk of steel. then a buddy of mine finished restoring a '70 K10 with his dad, and drove it to school once in a while. it was nice to see old iron in the parking lot, compared to the newer rice that so many people are so fond of.

.later days.

Re: Any students on here?

I just graduated high school as well, but havn't really started my truck. It's hard to when you have a job, school, and still have bills to pay to have enough money to fund a rebuild. Soon it will run though, and thats all i care about. However it may look I don't care. There was another senior whoe drove a 67swb chevy, pretty straight too. Now I will have more time in college especially if I don't work, but that means less money, its a give and take relationship money and time.

Re: Any students on here?

All right! Niiice looking vehicles everyone. That's cool, and I understand that some of you can't afford or don't have the time (I'm in that boat for the next week or two). But, so long as we get around to it, right?

My truck was featured in the school yearbook on the "Most Unique Rides" page. I was stretched out across the roof and I tried to squeeze as much info about it as I could on one line.

It's popular at school alright, even more so when I used to ahve the "sack" hanging from my rear end. Man am I gonna miss highschool.

Re: Any students on here?

I'm 18 and I just graduated this year too, I started driving my truck my Junior year. It had the loudest exhaust in the parking lot(dual straight pipes for awhile) and was the oldest one in the parking lot. It was also the only truck with a cow horn and a CB radio. The last day of school I had "sweet home Alabama" blasting on the stereo. The second pic is my favorite one, took it out by a friends house around 11:30 when we were drag racing our trucks.

Re: Any students on here?

Whew, that sure is a nice truck there Kenneth. What would you call that paint, gun metal grey? Or is it more silverish than what I'm thinking? Looks like you're going for the ratrod theme just a tad. Nice, I like the stance also.

Its Like a gold gun metal grey. To me the paint looks good flat. I think Im going to keep it that way when I install the 67 clip. What do you guys think I should do?

Re: Any students on here?

i turn 16 july 30th and i'll be driving my truck to school for the first time this year. i hope nothing bad happens. i'll be in a pretty empty part of a different parking lot than most students use.

if you heard about black kids making fight videos and selling DVDs called aggtown fights, that's my school...

Re: Any students on here?

I'm 25 now but I drove my truck junior year in high school till my sophmore year in college then I got my vw for better gas mileage and rust prevention. Best story I have is my senior year I drove my truck around the school to get to auto shop to fix the exhasut. It had open headers and it was 11am they took my parking permit for disturbing class woohoo!!

Re: Any students on here?

I'm also 25. Drove the '67 to high school. Got in trouble for doing squealys in the parking lot My dad laughed when the HS called him about it. He gave me that "don't do it again" speech, but his tone was more like "don't get caught again" Truck sat for almost 4 years and I got to drive it to Clemson for my last year of college. By far my best year of college (had and still have a great gf, had most of my hard classes done with and somewhat easy ones left, I finally had extra money, good friends, and I had the 67!)

Here's what she looked like at Clemson. We had an ice storm one night. It's currently going under a mild "daily driver" restoration.

Edit: couldn't get the ice storm pics to upload, they were kinda cool

Re: Any students on here?

I'm 24 - got my truck when I was 15, started on it then. Went into the paint booth my senior year for a few months and came out a few months before graduation. I was one of 2 67-72 drivers at school. I now work with the other guy, and he has his. (We weren't even friends in school, and it is just by odd coincidence that he came to work here...)

My truck was always well favored by my buddies. Before and after "finishing" it. You're never finished. Still working on it.

Before... (with wheels, bumpers, etc...)

After...

Re: Any students on here?

My wife drove this truck to college quite frequently her last two years. She said she would get quite a few odd looks in it.

She did say that she probably got more looks when she drove this one!

As a matter of fact we drove the C/10 to her graduation and then left out afterwards for the nationals in Maggie Valley.

Here she is afterwards with her proud papa!

After graduation she wanted something a little smaller and cheaper on gas so we broke down and got her a little 6cyl gas saver.

I think she gets a little different kind of looks in this one!

I am 21 and will be a senior in college after this friday. I used to drive my 63 to highschool everyday. My sophmore year year of college I decided to do a 427 buildup and now I can only afford to drive it to school once or twice a semester.

LOL, yeah I bed it could. Oh yeah the straight pipes will get you in trouble quick around here, our neighbors hated it. One finally called the cops on me and i got a "verbal warning" from a cop to put mufflers on it. All I did was get short glasspacks put on it, hardly any difference! Oh yeah now that I think about it there was another '70 in the parking lot at school, the guy that drove it graduated a year before I did. It was a 1/2 ton longbed painted john deere green, it had a straight 6 with a four on the floor.
